As you've discovered Chris, Welsh translation is not an exact science as there are some English words that don't have a Welsh equivalent. Sometimes you have to potch it about to give a general meaning - but in this case they were well off!

There are many jobs advertised in Wales that state
"The ability to speak Welsh would be an advantage."

On one occasion, they got that wrong too and put in the ad:

"The ability to speak would be an advantage."

Hopeless!
