 I shall inform her mum and dad of that ;)

Mum and Erin are now back home and settling in nicely...

Autumn's getting well into her 'big sister' role :)

That's looking good Husky :) I love seeing comets and meteor showers. I've only ever seen a good display once in my life and had to travel to a distant and dark part of the world to see the Milky Way. That's a sight that never gets old...

I've yet to see an aurora although I've used both the effects of an aurora and meteor scatter to make long-distance amateur radio contacts on the 2M and 70cm bands using high-speed morse for the latter.

One day I hope to see a properly decent aurora...

Solar activity is still high at the moment, and the next few weeks are peak viewing time - there was a good show last week (if it wasn't cloudy, like at our house!), and there may be more strong shows in the next few weeks. I'll message you, Jim if there is anything that looks like it might be visible down south - although you have to stay up late  The event last year where the sky even in the town was fully red was something to behold!

Thanks Richard :D That'll be awesome

Finally, I'm now good to get stuck into my stack of projects... Yesterday I cracked on with a camera, one of my proper old-school Pentax SLRs, that's been in bits on my bench for weeks and it's now all fixed, reassembled and good to go :D

Then, finding I had time on my hands, I got stuck into overhauling my poorly grandfather clock...

Here is the movement all in bits...
20251028_163620.jpg
It's not been touched since the 1990s so it's needing a full overhaul as it's covered in sticky old gummy lubricant and lots of grime. Some parts will need lathe work too...

First job - disassembly - is done. Today, after I get home from hospital I'll continue.

Note that the oscilloscope and soldering iron on the bench has no role to play in this job although they will in the next: that'll be your amp Bobins :)

Nah, it's a laptop job obviously, grandfather clocks are OBD2 enabled.

T1897 "kinetic energy to tick-tock module open circuit or short to ground"

Is the usual code thrown with these, no? :rofl2:

  Love it :-D

Just ordered some new catgut for the clock. For the past 36 years it's been using bright blue strimmer line and it's got hard and brittle over the years... Plus, the colour is all wrong...

When the lines break, as they often do after many years, the weight is often at the top of the clock case after being just wound and when the weight falls it hits the floor with a heck of a bang.

Terrifying when it happens in the middle of the night - as it usually does

Excellent, Jim, I'll look forward to your diagnosis...... although I fear that might be : "It's fubard" #-o :-D
I remember there are a couple of resistors on the board that are designed to run hot..... but I'm not sure they were supposed to smoke like they did 8-[
Electronicery like that is all beyond my comprehension - as far as I'm concerned it all runs on the PFM principal

Wow  That's magic Husky! Love those :D

Yesterday, my plastics nurse game me permission to start walking short distances and to drive short distances - the emphasis being very much on the word 'short' and an order not to try to do too much too soon.

Also advised to get physio under way in preparation for getting me good to run again :)

My visits to Stoke Mandeville are not over yet. I'm back next week and then two-weekly if current progress is maintained...

With my new-found freedom I wasted no time is going to see Erin for the very first time. Strawberry was my chosen mode of transport... I think she enjoyed the run too :)

I also took Autumn to the local Play Park for a bit of fun and fresh air :D It was a bit damp and the slides were quite wet. That and the combination of Autumn wearing a puddle suit made her descents down said slides very, very rapid... I was having to catch her as she flew off the end of the slide  For once, I kept off the play equipment although the zip wire gave me lots of temptation, as did those fast slides... I was a good boy though...

It was good to be out and about as we were both suffering a bit of cabin fever...

Loving this picture I took of the girls

This looks as though it is right up your street Jim.

I have one of these, cracked the glass at work, went in the bath and drowned it. No-one interested in repairing it and they say it is cheaper to buy a new one than have Seiko handle it.

I have recently taken up watch repair as a hobby, and have bought the tools required for basic watch overhaul.

So if no-one else wants it I would have a go. I can't show you my first completed project yet, as cosmetically it is a basket-case and I am still preparing the case for replating. It looks like a nice watch BTW.
