Yes I ask the stupid questions, because normally it is that simple.

Here Jim
Alnmouth.
Alnmouth is where the river Aln meets the sea. When the tide is in it assumes lake like proportions but in reality the river itself is quite puny for most of its length. It gets enhanced as it flows around Alnwick Castle Pastures with a couple of weirs. A run timed right and you can quite easily run across the river to the other side where 5 miles of un-interrupted beach take you down to Warkworth. The river is pretty shallow at low tide as it makes its way across the sand.

That is so beautiful Neil
I yearn to run on a Northumberland beach again. I was only telling Robyn today just how magical it is up there. Be sure you will have to endure more visits from me in due course
You are so fortunate to have all that nearby... I'm so jealous!

It looks like the bird scarer my uncle used to use at his allotment. Makes a hell of a bang but not popular with the housing estate across the road!!
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
It is indeed a bird scarer, although I'm sure the wind and rain we have had recently have ruined more of the crop than the birds. Odd though some fields are perfect, not a hint of the weather damage. I didn't realise they used propane gas to make the bang.mickthemaverick wrote: 22 Aug 2023, 20:52 It looks like the bird scarer my uncle used to use at his allotment. We had those in the orchard above our house when we lived in Kent, I think they used acetylene.

Those weld all the birds together so they end up so heavy they can no longer fly and fall out of the sky...Peter.N. wrote: 22 Aug 2023, 23:03 We had those in the orchard above our house when we lived in Kent, I think they used acetylene.

Re: Picture(s) of the day....
Found one once in a ww2 pillbox in Cambridgeshire, got out quickly, 100 yards away it went off. You can imagine the sound of that, I was very lucky.

Today's Quest
Bring a picture of a blackberry to join the August 23rd 2023 POTD fruit collection, they are in profusion just now well ahead of the traditional autumnal "Blackberry Week" half-term holiday of times gone by

There's a cracker of a crop of blackberries down in Somerset this year... I ate plenty during my time there this weekend... The ones around where Alasdair lives are very fine...
