Going back to when supermarkets first entered the fuel market I recall going to the fuel depot at Diglis Lock Worcester and seeing all brands, Shell BP Fina and Tesco filling their tankers from the same storage tanks. No evidence of extra additives in those days.

I heard that the additives were put in at the refinery, depending on where the fuel was to be delivered. I noted that our local Sainsburys had deliveries from various tankers too.

I have used their fuel for decades with no ill effects, other than I had to go elsewhere when they started using air freshener in the kiosk/shop. Had a problem paying, couldn't breath or speak fro ages, blocked the pump until I could give another customer my card, tell her the PIN and she payed for me.
Pay at the pump now so don't need to go inside to pay.

Purely for general interest this article in Autoexpress sums up why I use Shell V-Power solely in my cars. While anything you read anywhere must be read with the knowledge of the marketing world in mind, I can say from personal experience that my oil that came out at yesterday's service after 11675 miles of running was almost as clear as the new oil that went in, plus the sump plug magnet was pristine!! I have been using it in all my vehicles since before they renamed it, initially because of fears of rubber component degradation from 'ordinary petrol' and I will continue to do so. My 2.5 litre boxer engine with almost 150000 miles on the clock still returns upper 30s mpg in general use and I have breached the 50mpg on long runs on a couple of occasions, one with Jim beside me!! I will not be changing

Both Bluebell and Strawberry are always filled with premium E-5 petrol and more often than not, V-Power as I have a Smell garage local to me.

Diesel, as said, is diesel and given the nature of the stuff and the combustion process, as long as it meets the recognised standard then it's perfectly suitable for running a diesel vehicle.

If you were to call the Head Librarian of Unseen University, Ankh Morpork a monkey he would go apesh1t. (For those who are not familiar with Sir Terry Pratchetts' 'Discworld', in the second book the Head Librarian got caught in the backlash of a massive change spell and was turned into an Orang Utan. He has since resisted all attempts to change him back. Calling him a monkey almost always provoked a violent response (only once did he just give a warning, and that was because he liked that person.), and being bounced on your head while he is holding onto your ankles clearly proves he is a Great Ape, as a monkey could not do this!).

Today I've been in my proper happy place mainly spent working on Bluebell after a long run around the common checking it for tomorrow's parkrun, a bit of baking and some quality time with Steph

First job was to deal with a filthy Picasso That was as a result of the trip to Somerset and back. I had to as it was lowering the tone of our close!

Also, I want her nice and clean for her MoT shortly...

Strawberry also got a wash...

Then I spray painted Bluebell's bumper struts... Several coats of primer and top-coat...

Whilst they were drying I got handy with the wire brush and a can of B-H underbody wax and did some rust-proofing ahead of refitting the washer reservoir and bumper.

All is looking lovely now around the bumper strut mounts

Last evening, following the acquisition of some connectors from a scrapped Xantia wiring harness, I did a bit of work to do a better repair on the old, damaged washer pump so that the pump is not 'hard-wired' and a replacement pump can be easily substituted if need be.

This is how it looks...

The white plug on top of the pump is just acting as a case to retain a load of silicone grease; the wires being soldered directly to the remains of the damaged connector spades on the pump.

Silicone grease will be smeared on the crip ferrules above the middle plug and socket to keep moisture out...

I tested it all ahead of final assembly...

All the bits in the engine bay that needed to be removed to get at the starter motor have been reinstalled.

And after priming the fuel system she fired straight up It was noticeable the starter motor is somewhat more eager after its overhaul...

A good day and all's left to do now is to refit the bumper and screenwash reservoir and she's all good to go...

It's been a hugely enjoyable day
