Re: Notice to all Photobucket Users
Quite annoyed actually because I have hundreds of photos on there dating back to about 2005
Wonder if I can download them all back from vomitbucket to my drive without giving them any money

You should be able to once all the panic dies down.
Give it a couple of weeks. I don't even bother trying to access the site now.

Re: Notice to all Photobucket Users
Downloading back to your PC is straightforward, Graeme.
I've done that last week (about 300 photos in about 15 albums).
Each album on PB is downloaded separately, and the photos come back zipped. Fairly quick process.
Save as zipped items, and unzip them to restore original JPEGs.
I left the photos on PB, so the new back-linking to here could be completed.

FCF Member Avatars - For Information
Please be aware that we are actively removing any user Avatars that are still embedded and linked to Photobucket that display the 'Dial of Death' image. We have restored the embedded images within posts, but not the user Avatars.
For those who did have a Photobucket-hosted Avatar, you can easily replace it by using a Gravatar Avatar or simply upload an image from your PC.

Re: Notice to all Photobucket Users
Are they on a mission too or just through inactivity Steve?

Re: Notice to all Photobucket Users
They did say inactivity but I have had several notifications and logged in to the account and fiddled around with it a bit but they have still closed it.
I suspect it was another one that I have forgotten about so it isn't likely to impact anything much.
They killed the forum embedding a while back too.

Re: wanted
In fact nowadays you specifically should NOT use Photobucket as they now charge for their service.

That's not quite correct - it's entirely possible to still use photobucket without paying a penny (I still do) however for most users, uploading to the forum is far simpler so is probably the way to go anyway.

Re: wanted
3rd party hosting is still chargeable. Free accounts don't include this feature, so not recommended for Fora and certainly not needed here with our own image uploading facility now. Free accounts allow sharing on social media but not on Fora unless you pay.

Re: wanted
I can assure you, I haven't paid photobucket a penny and all my posts on here use images uploaded to my photobucket account

Re: wanted
Iain, I can sure you that it’s because Mike wrote a routine to ‘harvest’ all the images that we could back at the time when Photobucket started to hold everyone to ransome. They are now stored on our server!
The fact that you still think they are hosted by Photobucket is a testament to the excellent work that Mike did on this and required no involvement from members

Re: wanted
Hi Marc,
The forum may well be harvesting the images (and yes that is great work if it's doing that) but I can assure you that's not how I post them (I don't upload them to the forum) it's not necessary if you know the photobucket workaround and that's not how I make posts to all the other forums I'm on, that still don't have any self hosting (either direct upload or harvesting)
This is another example, directly posted as the link from photobucket (albeit I understand that the forum may harvest it);
Check here for post example on another forum made this week by me, live hosted by photobucket
