I find the UK ads are particularly annoying now, compared to the other countries I know. If the YT ads get too much, I sometimes set up a VPN to a country where I don't understand the language or recognise most of the products, they tend to have a lot less adds in those countries. I have also got very good at mentally blocking the ads.

I'm of the understanding they can indeed have undesirable consequences in some circumstances and that makes me very reticent to go there. I have two very stable and happy Windows 11 installations running and my reluctance to rock that particular boat for something I can live without for 99.9% of the time is profound.

Likewise third party virus scanners and the like; one, with a name ending in 'sky' is alleged to have spyware built into it. For that reason I'm very wary of any third-party software making lots of promises... I'm easily disappointed.

If I never see another YT video as long as I live, truthfully, it's no great loss... Yesterday afternoon, feeling much improved, I put the telly on after a short walk in the fresh air and appreciated just how s**t it really is - even the ad-free BBC 'Pointless' really is just that although I did giggle that one of the rounds yesterday was all about Milton Keynes... We residents of that fair city were amused at how the questions were posed...

That said, when I was really off-colour it did stop me going totally mad and kept me from climbing the walls - I can succumb to cabin fever very readily.

I expect the TV will now go back to it's normal role of sitting in the corner of the lounge being little more than a dust-trap.

Jim, I think I may have worked out the cause of your issues. I think my car's ECU has infiltrated your central nervous system causing severe disruption concomitant with the car's health!! Thus as I replace the defective parts you get to feel better. Thus with the 4 wheel alignment today, the service including new brake pads all round on Sunday you should be 100% by the MOT next week!!

No pauses.....zero problems with them at all......I am Advert free on everything Jim (I hate them as well) YT=AdFree, Facebook etc also=AdFree

Ad Blockers are browser based (I use Firefox) rather than a Windows based thing....you get them based on which one you use, I download mine from the Firefox App listings....at the moment UBlock Orgin is the one that is working seamlessly to stop Y-Tube ads etc and FB Purity to clean up all the Ads and recommendations etc on F-Book

There are, basically, two forms of advertising on YouTube. The adverts that YouTube drop in as you watch can be blocked (unseen with no disruption to your viewing) with the ad-blockers..... and the blockers work very well. The other type of advertising is where the presenter of the video has been sponsord by someone or something and so they have to run an advert. A good presenter will seemlessly run into the advert and you're a few seconds in before you realise that they've changed tack and they're prattling on about how they use this wonderful new hair trimmer on their nether regions - just fast forward until you get back to the interesting content ! The bad presenters will just clunkily start talking about this latest wonder product that's good for you / has a discount code / your cat/dog would benefit from etc. e.g. "I eat Soylent Green because it tastes good and it's good for me and also because they're paying me to say so"

I managed a short run this morning at a very gentle pace and so far all is good... My fitness is more or less my current IQ - very low and almost non-existent but it shows recovery awaits in the wings...

Brave has an inbuilt adblocker apparently. I have Ublock Origin and Adblock Plus on all browsers except 'Web' that is never used where ads may appear. Never see any anyway.

That's two more to look at Steve, thanks! I looked at a few for Chrome and the reviews did not fill me with a great deal of confidence to be honest so any positive recommendations for ones that are known good with Chrome would be appreciated.

My use of Chrome is not up for negotiation. I seem to have a browser called Edge on my laptops that likes to pop up on regular occasions and plead with me to make it my default. Despite repeated advice for it to go do one it persists. Almost like spam. If anyone can advise on how to correct this intrusive behaviour I'd be grateful

So what makes a browser brave? I have an image in my mind of it valiantly fighting spam and scams against all the odds like a knight of old in proper Monty Python style
