Re- the clutch cable, I may have got some detail of refitting the cable arse about face so please don't hold me to it if you try to install one the way I have described.
What bothers me is that taking the box off only a couple of months ago to stuff a new clutch in presented no problem when removing the cable at the box end, yet with the new clutch and cable in, the cable would'nt go over the anchored bracket on the box when it was also clipped to the pedal, and yet to my mind the position of the release arm with a new clutch fitted should have made it easier not more difficult.
Maybe there was some difference in the cable somewhere, the new one is genuine citroen, the old one was a pattern job but they looked the same.

The first road vehicle I drove with an all non syncro box was an old 17ton leyland truck, after the novelty of double declutching which was mandatory had worn off, and the heavy unassisted action of the pedal was starting to make my knee ache, thats when changeing without using the clutch first came about for me.

Stuck another cable on for a family member yesterday, so heres clarification of my earlier balls up.
The auto adjusting cable has to be fitted at the pedal end first, it is otherwise impossible as no inner cable protrudes into the cabin, Algieuk was right, my mistake, I was a bit of a wreck after fitting that clutch.
This new cable went over the bracket on the box with no trouble, which begs the question, why didn't it on mine a few months ago.
The cable I have just taken off had the outer sleeve worn through by the guide wire on the subframe, water had got it and the entire cable had bulged up from the rust being formed, this made the operation of the clutch heavy and the new cable has made a world of difference, but is still not as light as mine with the new clutch fitted.
