With several friends and acquaintances in the motor trade I tend to avoid garages of all colours like the plague. Most modern "technicians" and "engineers" at main dealers do little more than swap parts to solve difficult problems. As ghostrider says the encyclopaedic knowledge just isn't there anymore. Long live the Forum.
