How to repair my 2010 CITROEN C5?

Post by Happy_Boy »

Hello and Happy New Year!

Two monts ago I bought a 2010 CITROEN C5 EXCLUSIVE, 2.0 HDI,138 BHP, AUTOMATIC. A few days later I noticed that after lifting and lowering the car in front of the front right tire there is a puddle.
I drove to Robins & Day Chingford and here is the result:
1. Hydraulic Suspension Pump to be replaced;
2. Power Steering Pump to be replaced;
3. They can not do this, because these units are no longer produced.

Now I am loking for used pumps and I have some questions:
How to find proper parts for my car?
Do you know a mechanic in London (or around) to replace them (Robins & Day use new parts only)?
Thanks in advance!

Better double check that before spending on it, if you have an LDS puddle it might be that you've split the LDS tank by using an inappropriate was of jacking the car up.

That's a good call from Gibbo.
Check out the reservoir first.

The power steering pumps are showing as available, although there is a different part number recommended now.

This does not sound correct to me - never heard as yet of the power steering pump going on these and if that was the case, I doubt very much that both the PS pump AND the BHI hydraulic suspension block have both developed leaks at the same time. Does not sound right at all.

Further, the BHI (Hydraulic block and suspension interface) is also showing as available. If these were not available they would state this on parts.

But as Gibbo says, you first need confirmation of where the leak is coming from.

Possible causes:
Suspension strut
Hydraulic pipe,
Burst or leaking LDS tank
Steering rack (dripping down from pinion or the seals where the pipes enter / exit on the rack.

So far I'm not feeling confident about your garage..... if they aren't aware of the parts availability, I'm doubting their diagnostic.

Thank you for the answers!
I haven't used the jack yet (I know about the highest position).
The reservoir is OK.
The power steering pump works fine, but - excessive corrosion casing and needs to be replaced, the mechanic said.
It is good to double check, but I need your help to find another garage for hydraulic around me (London). If not - I like to drive and I will drive the car anywhere to have it fixed. :wink:

It is possible for the reservoir to develop a pinhole leak on the seam (especially if she has been lifted with the wheels hanging and the reservoir cap not loosened first), and leak the LDS fluid very slowly. While the reservoir should still be available, what with the changes through Brexit, COVID and so on, getting one from Citroen could take some time. I got a replacement reservoir for my C5 from a supplier in Poland and (barring the delay while it remained for several days at the FedEx depot in Poland) it was a fast turn around, with a reasonable price (more than from Citroen, but less than most ebay sellers).
