A friend of mine has one of these, seems like the timing belt has skipped a tooth or two. Still runs on 2 cylinders. Injectors have been checked ok. Suspect no compression on one or two of the other cylinders.
As it’s a long job to get the inlet manifold off to remove the glowplugs to run a compression test, can someone tell me if it’s like the old 2.0HDi in that it breaks rockers, and if so, is it possible to whip the rocker cover off and see? Or is it a valve smasher?
Thanks for your help!
Mike

Re: 2.2HDi C5 timing belt skippage - Help!
Is this a mk1 C5? 4HX engine? If so they have the same type of rockers as the old DW10 that normally break before bending valves. To remove the camshafts to replace the rockers the cylinder head cover needs to be removed, this requires the removal of the injectors which on this engine can be a real problem.
I would also remove the cam pulley & check for damage to the woodruff key. Remember there is also a small timing chain between the two camshafts that you would want to replace too in the event of rocker damage.

2.2 glow plugs are down the back of the head so not accessible as compression check point.
Going to need to bite the bullet and get the valve cover off and camshafts out to check for valve movement.
Might as well just whip the head off and be done....
PS I have a 05 plate spares car if you need one

Thanks for the tip. My plan if my friend decides it’s a goer, would be just whizz it on my drive and do it for/with him as a summer project for my quiet WFH/enforced time off times. Nothing to lose - it’s got to come apart anyway, so if we can’t fix it, then we’ve saved the next owner the problem of dismantling..MGmike wrote: ↑11 Jun 2021, 18:29 2.2 glow plugs are down the back of the head so not accessible as compression check point.
