XM Radio harness

Post by Guttedman »

Hi all. First Post here. Got myself a fantastic 1999 XM 3.0V6 24v in beautiful condition which I'm going to be using as my daily driver. Naturally I'll keep the existing Citroen radio for if/when I resell, but in the meantime I need to get a new radio fitted (for the DAB and Bluetooth). However, I've been told that a steering control harness does not even exist for it so I won't be able to use my steering wheel controls with the new radio :(
I wondered if anybody knows differently... or if a Xantia or 605 one would fit instead??
Thanks.
And this won't be my last post I'm sure! :-D

Hi Gutted!

Have done what you're describing, on a 2.5 (S2) XM.
This is a write-up of it, including how the steering wheel controls were retained...
http://www.club-xm.co.uk/forum/viewtopi ... =13&t=9283.

The Sony CDX-G1302 (green display) is still available. Have quite recently put one into our BX.
If you need DAB and bluetooth, you'll need to look further up the Sony range. Hopefully, their 3.5mm (remote control) jack, which used a simple resistive chain for function control, is used on other models too. If not, maybe they offer a matching remote of their own. If stuck, let me know the model number of any Sony you're interested in, and I can perhaps help look into remote possibilities.

We do remote possibilities rather well on FCF, y'know. #-o

Thank for this too Chris!
Funnily enough it's a Sony I'm looking at...the MEX-N7300DB model.
Not able to look at the link you sent me yet tho, sorry. Got that issue I told you about wrt the registration on club xm forum. Hopefully I can get it sorted!
Thanks again.

OK, progress.
You'll find the User Manual (downloadable pdf) for the MEX-N7300DB on Sony's website.

The unit is an added-function version of those I have here (DAB, Bluetooth, voice recog...), but does have the (3.5mm) jack on the rear for a "wired remote control". As such, the resistor values in my XM steering wheel mod should work just fine; I'm guessing they're standard Sony values for an added remote.

On my experience, I'd forget trying one of the aftermarket "interface" widgets that claim to allow existing (older) steering wheel controls to operate newer head units. I tried one, and it was hopeless.

Hope helpful.
