Heading Banner Links
I wondered if anyone uses the heading banner links to the board index? I frequently find myself back at the board index because I have run the cursor across the banner to the Your Posts button and often inadvertantly activated the link. It took me a fair while to realise what was happening but now I know I wondered if the links are more hassle than they are use for others? If they are maybe they could be removed?

Re: Heading Banner Links
I use them quite a lot. Never inadvertently activated them, although I do with plenty of others.
Perhaps should note that this is with computers, not a 'phone.

Sorry? Heading banner links? What are they?

Re: Heading Banner Links
If you put your cursor anywhere in the middle of the blue silver red header band at the top of the page you will find the link there.

Re: Heading Banner Links
It's by design - we put those there in common with lots of other sites, so people can always get back to the home page - especially newcomers. We get a lot of people that arrive directly on specific threads from a search engine and then can't always find a way to the main Forum, so clicking the logo banner takes them there.

Re: Heading Banner Links
Thanks Marc that makes sense and I had assumed there was a good reason. I don't suppose there is any chance of altering the button arrangements so that the post relevant ones are on the bottom and the general Forum relevant ones are along the top?

Re: Heading Banner Links
It's not something we had planned on doing as it takes a while to implement - changing the layout also requires changes to the pages designed for tablets and mobiles too. I know Mike is busy with other things at present, but he'll no doubt read this and may chip in Mick, but I wouldn't hold my breath just yet .

Confirm I've never used it as I (usually!) know where I'm going.

Re: Heading Banner Links
I am puzzled about how to reproduce this issue. What type of device are you using? Are you using a touch screen or other pointing device?
Are you dragging across the screen to scroll the page?

Re: Heading Banner Links
My understanding is that Mick is hovering over the main FCF banner and instead of clicking the 'New Posts' button, he is inadvertently clicking the main banner - which of course takes him to the home page. There's no unusual behaviour Mike

Re: Heading Banner Links
It happens randomly as I move the cursor from the posting area across the header to the "your posts" or "unread posts" buttons. Before I recognised that the links were there it was very frustrating but now I know what is happening it is just an irritation. The screen randomly jumps to the board index and I have to use the back arrow to get back to where I was. Its not worth you wasting time on over other more important things. It is not a problem, just an irritation!! I use an HP laptop with wireless keyboard and mouse. Cheers

Re: Heading Banner Links
If you are using a mouse (rather than a touch screen), a link should only get selected if you click the button while hovering over the link,.
If you think that the problem is that the 'active' areas of the image are not quite aligned with the picture (by a few pixels), then you may be correct, but it seems to depend on the browser.

Re: Heading Banner Links
I think the problem might be that Mick is using a laptop touchpad and that has "Tap to Click" enabled. It's not switchable on every laptop (I have a Packhard Bell, for instance) but on my Toshiba Satellite it is and I have it turned off. I find it so very annoying to be dragging the cursor across a screen and randomly selecting something I had no intention of clicking on.
If it's possible, Mick, disable the Tap to Click and just use the proper buttons.

Re: Heading Banner Links
I don't use the touchpad Paul as it has a sticky right button which is why I connected the wireless keyboard and mouse. I prefer the fullsize keyboard too, which is velcro'd over the laptop's keys (not touching any keys) and works very well.. I do use the mouse scroll wheel which may be part of the issue, Thanks for the responses but please don't spend any more time on it as I can cope now I have realised that I can avoid it altogether by running the cursor up the edge !!
