Now this is a first. The tangled leaves if you do not recognise them are Mistletoe, and the plant has grafted itself into the low branches of this hawthorn.

Hands up if you have ever seen mistletoe in the wild.

Oh yes, plenty of it. There is a tree between J5 and J6 M4 that is worth an absolute fortune come Christmas! It is almost more mistletoe than tree. The trees at Saint Peters Church in Caversham (at the bottom of Saint Peters Hill) could make the church a pretty penny as well.

It seems to be more common in the South than the North, certainly the first time I have seen it up here.

Very common in Hertfordshire, almost every tree lined road in Hertford has at least one tree with a ball in it. Saves having to pick it at Christmas you just go for a stroll!! :-D

Pretty much exactly 20 years ago, in and around the northern Italian lakes, and Venice, and a return via the Stelvio Pass . . .

Apologies Chris I was in the middle of this when your post popped up. Nice to see those "motoring for pleasure" location shots. In contrast to the many frustrating sagas of trying to make the things work in the main body of the forum, the other side of enjoying motoring is a welcome feature of our Off Topic Chat Lounge :-D

The electric car is an excellent bird-hide spotted this buzzard on top of a Telegraph pole at the side of the road.

Snapped a reasonable enough pic from a little way back.

Wanted a close up though so silently and slowly crept up in the LEAF. I had 18 x zoom at my disposal but...my buzzard didn't play ball and deliberately flew off for no reason other than spite!

Lots of mistletoe down here, often looks like a large birdsnest.

Come on folks..Its summer we all have cameras, its the weekend lets have a decent crop of POTD's today.

New joiners in as ever welcomed.

Here's an early starter from me...its a Moorhen! Bit easier to photograph than a Buzzard! But another one knocked off in my 100 birds quest.
