The BBC Breakfast has been following what is happening at Loch Arkaig, today the third egg hatched, and the new arrival made their TV debut around 06:56.

Re: On TV...
This appears here as an example of the purely whistled theme tune...at the time Maybe its Because I'm a Londoner.
The tune changed a little in the 1960's. So the first minute of the video is all you need to have a listen. Of course there may be a bit of interest in watching the rest. I haven't yet watched the lot myself.
..and the later tune, nice variations on the theme in the incidental music, given the appropriate "French" treatment, as George Andy and their partners have a little short break in Paris.

Strange that, I remember both of those intros but didn't realise that they had changed. I don't remember police being as friendly as that in my day.
Ted Willis who wrote that lived in my old home town of Petts Wood.

I was quite moved by Norman Wisdom's early life story in this little documentary I watched as an aside to our deliberations on "The Chain.....Make the Link" thread.

Ah! Betjeman!

Some great history, too.

Dont know if you picked it up from POTD Chris, but I posted that up this morning because you had mentioned it on the 1000'th post on POTD. To mark the 5000th post last night, I went back and revisited the 1000th, 2000th, 3000th and 4000th posts.
I just watched it this morning, and Peter added this bit of additional info.
Regards NeilNewcastleFalcon wrote: ↑07 Jul 2020, 09:53I watched it for the first time this morning, and did like the bit with the Leicester Square organ in his house. In particular I enjoyed John Betjemans involuntary joy as Len Rawle was playing. There was a moment too on the Moor Park golf course when he missed the ball when he burst into spontaneous laughter. I've always liked his stuff, and his love of railways but hadnt seen that aspect of character before!Peter.N. wrote: ↑07 Jul 2020, 09:40 The house he visited with the Leicester Square organ built into it belongs to Len Rawle who became quite famous as a result, he used to work at in insurance company in London that my wife worked at. We met him at an organ concert in St Austell some years ago and he remembered her.

Interesting too he had a wander round Norman Shaw's Grims Dyke house which has been a recent subject for discussion on the Pickled Egg Quiz, so I was quite familiar with it. Never knew about the "Wembley" Eiffel tower look-alike project which did get off the ground, but not as high as first thought...fascinating stuff

Re: On TV...
I have just watched Metroland and found it fascinating and inspiring. It is of course about the area in which I grew up, my school was in Rickmansworth, I earned my first wages caddying at Moor Park and went to Pinner fair on many occcasions. During my teenage exploratory years I travelled on the Met line many times for football at Wembley and trips to Madame Tussauds and The Planetarium in London. Then on Fridays we used to cycle to Watford Met and catch the train to Moor Park where we could change to Chorleywood for dances at The Chorleywood Memorial Hall which is sited just across the road from the station. We invariably ended up at someone's house around Chorleywood and had to make our own way back to Watford Met at 2 or 3 in the morning in time to grab 3 hours sleep in the bus shelter before reporting to the Caddy Shack at Moor Park for 06.30!! Fortunately that was only for a couple of years or I doubt I would have made 18!! The main memory I have of the dances is no doubt rose tinted but we always seemed to find good looking girls there and generally had a good night!!
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

Re: On TV...
I have just watched "How to Build an Aston Martin" on Channel 4. They followed the complete stages (in the factory in Gaydon) needed to build an Aston Martin DBS Superleggera from gluing (yes GLUING!) the metal tub together, the painting, the building of the drive train (the engines are actually built in Cologne), trimming out the car, and testing it. From start to finish (assuming no critical issues) takes 49 hours.
