Yes! It's ridiculous. I was doing 85mph down towards Cemetery Junction earlier and someone pulled out on me and continued at 30! In all seriousness, yes. Volunteering, I've been out quite a bit. It seems as though people have just lost all road sense. Overtaking on blind bends seems to be a new favourite.
I'm staying well off the road for a week when this lockdown ends. It'll be madness.

Re: Coping With Covid
I have just been reading a site recommended by my daughter about the benefits of Vitamin C in fighting Covid-19. The sight is run by a credited doctor, Andrew Saul, and is worth a look. http://www.doctoryourself.com/
Among the many quotations listed on the site I found this thought provoker:
When all the land is destroyed,
and all the fish are dead,
then will the white man learn
that he can't eat money.
(Native American saying)

"Saul (he's not an M.D., but rather a doctor of naturopathy", that's enough for me. I don't buy snake oil or homeopathy or any quack remedies.. High doses of vitamins can cause problems as the body can only absorb so much of anything.mickthemaverick wrote: ↑09 Apr 2020, 10:50 I have just been reading a site recommended by my daughter about the benefits of Vitamin C in fighting Covid-19. Don't be sorry Doctle, healthy debate is what this thread is for, I tend to agree with your views re homeopathy but we all know what happens if we do not at least listen to our son's and daughter's opinions!! Nevertheless the quote does strike a chord!!

Re: Coping With Covid
That would be Chief Dan George!
I'd be wary about anyone who's not a doctor saying he is a doctor of a discipline that doesn't have a registered academic doctorate course associated with it. It's like having an associate degree from the Bob Jones university.
I read a book on homeopathy once it said that they take elements dilute them by 1000% and they're effective. So I got 999ml of water and added 1ml of whiskey but it tasted like water to me. Undeterred I tried the same experiment another 4 times. I now had over a gallon of water and 5ml less whiskey.

I think you got that the wrong way round, should have started with 999ml of whisky

The only whisky I can afford isn't good so I drink bourbon. It really can do without watering for sure

Doing it this way round, do you continue until it tastes like water?

Re: Coping With Covid
At this time there are two things happening (with reference to COVID 19; there are more, but these may be considered important). The rate of infection MAY have slowed (it has gone up by about 2/3rds 1 million, so NOT a doubling over a week), but the number of deaths has just gone past 100,000 (100,371 as of 17:50 on 10/04/2020).

Re: Coping With Covid
The BBC very recently had an exclusive interview with Bill Gates. What he said made a lot of sense. In 2015 he, in effect, predicted a respiratory pandemic. He believes it will take 18 months (possibly slightly quicker, if everything goes well) to come up with a vaccine (and this will need bypassing some safeguards; seeing if a vaccine would cause side effects 2 years after taking it will, obviously, take 2 years, but we may not have that long), and this would be by following numerous chains of thought (he suggested 10) as there may be many ways to combat COVID 19. It is a long interview, but worth looking for (you can find clips, but the full interview would be better).
He also suggested that, once the developed world had got COVID 19 under control, they will HAVE to help the less developed countries (providing respirators, medication, expertise, and so on), otherwise later COVID 19 will re-occur across the World.

Re: Coping With Covid
I have been checking through the stats, and (where the UK is concerned) they are rather telling. Starting from 26th March there were only 135 cases in 16 days where the patients recovered, then for two days that stat went up to 344, and now (according to the website I linked to) there have been NO recoveries! The UK has put N/A into the Total Recovered statistic (which could imply there have been no recoveries in the UK from COVID 19). I wonder who is not doing their job properly? Every other country who is reporting their statistics has (when relevant) posted up a number in that column.

What's that old saying "Lies, damned lies and statistics."
I note Germany has only 2000 deaths recorded, I wonder if the Volkswagen dodgy software department is doing the recording.

Re: Coping With Covid
It may be that Germany genuinely has a low mortality rate. Today they show 3,037 deaths (as of 18:30 13/04).
