So, the LEXIA arrived to much hand rubbing and fast breathing.
I read through the instructions and then recalled a convo I had with someone from ED.
They said 32 bit would work best as that is what the car ECU runs.
Excellent! I have the reboot disc for Win7 with the choice of 32 or 64.
So I dug out an old Toshiba Satellite Pro L300 with 32 already installed, but it needs a new battery and C-mos battery....
No problemo, Mister E of the bay to the rescue
Bought the C-mos battery, £4 delivered and it'll arrive next week.
But trying to buy a power cell for the laptop is murder
I may as well live in a bloody cave in Afghanistan
So far, 3 different sellers display the legend DOESN'T DELIVER TO SCOTTISH HIGHLANDS so it's looking like I'm never gonna find a battery
I wouldn't mind if they stated an extra £5 for deliver or some such, but I don't see why I pay tuppence to send something down south and don't pay extra, yet doing the reverse causes all manner of nonsense!
So I emailed them all this:
May I ask why you are racist against Scottish Highlanders?
I'm not ginger, I don't live in the actual highlands, but instead I live in the city of Inverness.
I have an HDTV, fibre broadband, a Jaguar XK8 with actual petrol engine and can use many many pumps throughout the city. I have a Samsung mobile phone and metal straws so my son can save the turtles...
So when I come on Ebay to buy a battery for my old laptop (which I need to use as a diagnostic tool to interrogate my wife's car ECU) you say you wont post to Scottish Highlands, yet you post all over the world!!!!
Why wont you sell me a battery worth £11:99??
This is nonsense! Do we smell bad? Did my dog pee on your foot? I would really like to know.
I look forward to your reply.

Re: Am I Being Unreasonable??
Far from it Doo!! If they have a genuine technical reason to do with transporting batteries it might be intrigueing to see if we could arrange a relay delivery via various members strung along the route!! Otherwise if you don't have any luck you can get them to deliver it to me and I will send it on to you assuming you'd be happy to cover the postage!
I used to be indecisive, now I'm not so sure!

Re: Am I Being Unreasonable??
I have a feeling Royal Mail say they won't transport Lithium Ion (yes... I know ), so it's down to a select number of couriers to do the delivery...... and if they haven't got any agents up in the frozen wastelands of Scotland, then you're out of luck

Re: Am I Being Unreasonable??
There is of course Her Majesties Mail and Parcel Farce with huge depots up here.
Then we have Menzies, Herpes, TNT Fed Up, ipost parcels, DHL, Capitalist Carriers, Northwards, Woody's, M&H, Pegasus, UPS, Highland Haulage, DR Macleod to name but a few....
I know exactly how couriers work and I know the majority of drivers are sh@t on and don't give one hoot, let alone 2 whether your parcel arrives or not, let alone in good order.
But this doesn't do Scottish Highlands really boils my wee
So I am faced with having it delivered to someone and then they post it to me, but may be hung, drawn and quartered for knowingly posting a Li Ion battery

Re: Am I Being Unreasonable??
My Lexia laptop is so old that I've got practically no hope of getting a new battery for it, so whenever I use it on the cars here I have to run it on an extension lead

I actually have a 12v power pack to charge the battery from the cars 12v socket, but I just want the laptop to work without a billion trailing wiresGiveMeABreak wrote: ↑27 Sep 2019, 21:15 Time to wire the exercise bike up to the laptop and start peddling!

Re: Am I Being Unreasonable??
If you were ordering from Amazon.uk, try the same item from Amazon.de (or .fr, .nl, .es).
Amazon.de seem to have no trouble with delivery to us in Andalucia, where many .uk sellers often don't want to know.
Some couriers here do not get excited about remote rural/mountain locations, but most of them have local delivery (collection) points where stuff can be delivered. Their website should list them.

Re: Am I Being Unreasonable??
A company my wife used to work for had to get some Li Ion battery packs made up for some maritime equipment. They were duly manufactured and despatched from China and arrived in the UK for testing purposes. They then needed to send them on to the job site somewhere in Africa. If they'd had the time it would have been cheaper to get a whole new set made up a great expense and have them delivered from China straight to the site rather than have them freighted out. I even enquired whether a mate of mine who was always up for a challenge would be prepared to strap them to his motorbike and go on an expedition to deliver them - it would have been.... only he was otherwise engaged at the time

Re: Am I Being Unreasonable??
I know at work I ordered a hundred or so coin cells for The CMOS in our PCs and these were simply packed one each in a blister card as you would buy retail. They were couriered along with a load of other IT stuff, but nothing different that I can see if they were boxed and sent by RM.

This is a welcome distraction from watching Sky’s Alex Crawford trying for the Kate Adie award again - she’s either got her tin hat on or a gas mask and flak jacket in just about every scene! Give me a break!
