V6 24v Engine Mounts

Post by David Hallworth1 »

Does anybody know if the engine mounts on the 90 degree V6 are the same as the 60 degree V6. I have a V6 24v Citroen XM (1991 original 200bhp version - 90 degree V6), and suspect it to have a leaky Head Gasket, I have been offered a 60 degree V6 24v out of a 406. Would it be a straight forward job to fit it? The one from the 406 is likely to be 210bhp isn't it?
Regards
David.

Like the song said, it ain't necessarily so. Up to '99 the 60 deg V6 was 194bhp. The power increase was due to the introduction of variable valve timing. Sorry I can't help you with info about the engine mounts.

You may well be right David, can't think where I saw 194. The 1997 XM sales brochure quotes 195, shall we settle for that? (academic to me - I don't usually see more than 4500rpm (110mph, although I did once see 4800). It is still a very s m o o t h engine with a fair bit of dig.

The mounts are probably diferent.
As for the horsepower, the 60º V6 had, at a first stage, 194BHP, and with the introduction of VVT and other things, the power increased to 211BHP.
Of coursen this engine on the Clio V6 is a lot more powerfull, but that's a story i don't know of.
Cheers!

David, just as a matter of interest, some info on the 210bhp V6 can be found at http://www.citroenet.org.uk/html/c/c5tech2.html. Sorry, I don't know how to post this address so that you can just click on it.

To confuse matters more, perhaps it was writted as 197 when it was in PS not bhp as 197PS is ~ 194bhp :)

Hi All
Interesting C5 site. Since I have a 2000 XM V6, I wonder whether it's a 194bhp, 197bhp or a 210bhp? Anyone know if these engines have external difference that differentiate them?

The 194BHP has one black cover on the front cilinder block,
while the 211BHP has a full plastic cover, silver in color, if i'm not mistaken.

I think you'll find the black cover with silver ribbing was fitted on the 90 deg V6. My car has the silver cover with the three false inlets which don't lead anywhere and the "chrome" lettering "V624". It is unfortunately the 194 (195? whatever!)bhp version. On another track, references to knock preventers retarding the igition persuaded me to stick a tankful of expensive jungle juice into my car. I've just completed a fastish 200 mile trip over single carriageway roads with plenty of full throttle overtaking (I believe in spending the minimum time on the wrong side of the road)and about 15 miles town work. The result? no noticeable difference in performance and fuel consumption unchanged at 24 mpg overall. So it's back to regular. Tonyg, how does that compare with your car? Incidentally., I don't think Peugeot allowed Citroen to fit the 210 bhp engine - typical big brother!

As a point of interest, i used to fill the tank with 95 octane at first. Fuel consumption was 16L/100kms. Using BP 100 octane, fuel consuption droped 4~5l! This, mostly town driving!
BTW, this IS the 194BHP 60º V6, A.K.A. ES9J4 (my baby...and for sale[:(]):
