Number Plates
Yeah it’ll be interesting after brexit, if all the EU plates in UK have to be changed!

Re: Number Plates
Some will be removed with glee, others will be cherished. The EU (or other) country identifier was optional, anyway.

Re: Number Plates
I wonder if it was one of the bits of EU legislation that prevent us from having a constructor badge instead of a country flag on our plates...

They'll have to arrest me before I remove my plates with the EU identifier on them

Re: Number Plates
I have never had EU flags on my plates. Any plates I got made had a lion rampant or saltire on them.

That's good! Your flags haven't been hijacked by repulsive organisations though..

Re: Number Plates
I had to go out and look at mine never really noticed what was on them but the reg number. They have the EU stars and GB so if the Brexit goes ahead I'll just paint over the EU bit.

Re: Number Plates
Anyone notice how rare "EU" plates are now? Not just recently either, many of the plain plates I see pre-date the refererendum & don't look like recent replacements. Did the novelty just wear off - or did people the extra cost?
By an amazing coincidence, the Xantia is my 1st car ever to have had "EU" plates - but I have suitable stickers ready to cover the irrelevant sidebar (for the moment).
Not sure how we were able to sidestep the pan-EU requirement which seems to be mandatory in most countries but I suspect it will be some time before the relevant regulations are amended to remove present provision, especially as great care will need to be taken so as not offend the Scots & Welsh.

Re: Number Plates
AFAIK the EU stars surrounding the country identifier are not compulsory but the country identifier is if you're travelling around the EU. I have a feeling that the small size on the number plate is only legal within the EU and outside the EU you need a full size GB (or whatever) plate. Maybe we will need one after March 29th as well.

Re: Number Plates
Yes it was, hence my musing on how we were allowed to get away with it. (& my observation about how unpopular it seems to have become)
The 12 stars don't surround anything, they appear above the identifier which, I believe, will be irrelevant and we should revert to proper GB plates/stickers, whatever style plates we have.

Assuming it isn't declared illegal I will continue to show my stars.van ordinaire wrote: ↑28 Jan 2019, 18:32The 12 stars don't surround anything, they appear above the identifier which, I believe, will be irrelevant and we should revert to proper GB plates/stickers, whatever style plates we have.
