....I noticed the TV ad' for a leased Range Rover for £355 pcm.
That's odd, I thought, at the rate these things depreciate, that can't begin to cover the depreciation.
....so I went onto the website as if interested in having one, and was amazed to find in the second page, having selected my Range Rover Evoque to 'Customize [my] Lease'
"Would you like maintenance on your vehicle for an extra £51 a month" it said.....
MY vehicle.... hang on, we're talking about a Lease here. No, it'll never be mine [who in their right mind would want the responsibility of owning one of the planet's least reliable vehicles], this is YOUR vehicle and as a Lease vehicle its YOUR responsibility
I just can't believe the cheek of it !!
"We'll lease you a vehicle indefinitely Sir. You can pay for it and its successors monthly for an infinite period and never own....
but even though you'll never own it, we'll require you to Service and repair it as if you do"
Needless to say, in my case, its not a serious enquiry, but how do people get away with these things?! Has the world gone completely bonkers?

£355 a month for essentially a freelander ? who are they kidding?
Sod 'maintaining' it, these have terrible reliability issues and have to be the worst cars on the road for DPF problems I have ever known.

Re: Maintenance on your Lease Vehicle
Leasing a vehicle would normally include servicing/maintenance costs. That's one of the points of doing it.
By excluding these, all it does is to allow them to trumpet a lower figure.
More fool anyone who falls for it.

Have to agree, like anything it’ll all be in the microscopic print where you sign your life away if there’s any scratches when returned no doubt!

As far as I'm aware they still use the PSA 2.2 HDi. Is this prone to DPF issues or to Land Rover use their own non PSA DPF?

It is a bit (to my mind, at least) like the idea of leasing a mobile phone. OK, after a few years they will 'swap' it with a more modern phone, but it will never be yours.

It seems to be the 2.0 versions that seem to give the most hassle, I believe it is a Ford/PSA engine but the engine management system/DPF system will be LR specific.

Re: Maintenance on your Lease Vehicle
I think it was the 2.7 HDi V6 my mate had in his his Disco.... which performed the relatively common party trick of chewing up a crankshaft oil seal and pumping all its oil out onto the road. The first thing you know about the impending doom is the 'bing-bong' engine performance reduced warning on the dash...... followed by a seized engine a few seconds later.
To replace the engine - first remove the body from the chassis. And this is progress ?

Answer, don’t get a phone on a contract - buy it outright unlocked SIM and save buckets if you can. People need to get out of the sheep lane and stop thinking they have to ‘upgrade’ their phones every year to 18 months. It’s a joke.Hell Razor5543 wrote: ↑23 Aug 2018, 20:45 It is a bit (to my mind, at least) like the idea of leasing a mobile phone. I keep my iPhones for 5 years minimum. I still have an iPad 2, which although is stuck on an earlier IOS and not upgradable, it works fine for a tablet.
I’ve just dug out my old iPhone 4 that I bought and it is like brand new and in perfect working order, short of a new battery. I wish the same could be said for cars!
But the phone is yours, and you do own it on most contracts except continuous lease. It’s your choice whether you opt to start a new contract with a new phone or not. Many people just drop down to a lower phone / data monthly or PAYG contract and keep their old phone. It's the ‘ got to keep up with my mates’ attitude (especially with the younger gen.) that’s the issue, but a personal choice.

I just replaced my iphone 4s battery for the 3rd time took me 10 minutes and cost £5.30 for a new genuine battery off freebay lol. Yes i know its not genuine battery but it works fine.
My i phone just keeps paying for itself just like my 10 year old Berlingo van

Re: Maintenance on your Lease Vehicle
My daughter has decided she has had enough of her 14 year old 160000 mile A4 and has just bought a new to her car on a pcp plan. She hasnt got it yet, but told me yesterday that she has tomget it serviced to the manufacturers service schedule, get the book stamped and keep the invoices or else they wont guarantee the minimum guaranteed future value. It also has to be well kept with no damage at the end. I would have told her to get a servicing and mot plan, which was offered to her, but she is getting it from Arnold Clark, whose after sales service is abominable.

^ And I suspect they would at least another £100-150 a month extra to the contract for that too.

I dont know what the figure was, but we have a good relationship with our MOT station, and have found a decent garage who can service it, so that will be one off the list for me to keep going.
