Car reviews?

Post by qprdude »

I suppose we all browse through various reviews before buying and sometimes just the see what various models have.
I'm not sure whether the official reviews, Parkers, Auto Express etc. actually bother to check the cars, or just repeat the manufacturers specs.
According to Parkers, my car has Electric, memory, heated massage seats with electric lumbar support. The aren't even switches for massage, memory and lumbar functions on the front passenger seat.
Auto Express inform me that there is no button for opening the tailgate and only the keyfob can be used. There is a button in the cabin and a button next to the reverse camera in the number plate recess.

There are plenty more errors but you get the idea.
Does anyone think that if you are being paid to review a car, the least you can do is get your fat rear end out of your office and actually check the car?
I know owners reviews are usually subjective and reliant on previous owning experience, but they are often more precise and honest than so called "Professionals"

I'm off to Sevenoaks on Monday , so I'm girding my loins for the battle of the M25.
It should also give me enough miles to check if the crank case seal is still leaking, or the "Mechanics" (ha ha) at Richmond motors just didn't bother to clean up after them.

I never read any of those as they are invariable wrong Rick.

The trouble they have are the options packs - these change and are added / deleted. Some functions are later included in a later model and other features are dropped or become optional extras - so I doubt they bother to go back and revise these but try to stick to the performance and economy specs.

Now interestingly enough, they did get the difference right between EDC5's C5 X7 138 engine and my 140 engine - although mine is slightly more powerful, but still a DW10BTED4 engine, EDC5's car tax is £280 with mine being £190. (His CO2 is 189 g/km V mine at 153 g/km)! So at least they picked that up - and something that I hadn't realised that the emissions were so different between the 2 cars.

Are both cars auto Marc?

EDC5's is Auto Paul, Mine is manual, and looking again the Manual version of EDC5's is actually the same emissions and tax. Parkers don't actually list an Auto for the 140 oddly.

Seems there is a hell of a difference between the Auto and the Manual - for the 160 engines, the difference between the Auto and manual is 163 and 129 g/km respectively!

Quite easy for me, I have to get one that I can afford and can repair - not many of those about now
