I am on the hunt for a Xantia, had a few but not sure of prices.
what is a reasonable price to pay for a 1996 2ltr VSX with 2 months mot with 52k on the clock ?
i am also looking at a 1.8 lx same mileage but a 1999.
VSX is up for £750, 1.8 is up for £200
do not think the VSX owner really knows what it is in Xantia terms, has posted lots about reversing cams and sat nav additions.
Head says £200 is a bargain but will cost me that to get it home, heart says VSX at £500 and £75 to get it home
Oh and SWMBO is not in the loop on this
Both check out on MOT check, mileage and stuff done checks out on failures etc
whats it worth? or why did i sell.........;)

Re: whats it worth?
The value really depends on the condition, particularly rust in the rear door shuts. I would go for the VSX, but would halve the value if it will need rust repairs soon.

Re: whats it worth?
Hmmmm, interesting.
If the VSX is really only worth £375, the "bargain" lx is well over-priced @ £200!
Must reconsider the asking prices of the couple I'm vaguely interested in.
b-t-w, those get home prices seem horendous, given my peripatetic lifestyle, am I able to assist?

Sorry been busy with the boys car, but here are the links to the cars i was looking at.
1.8 petrol
VSX
Please note the 1.8 has dropped to £150 now.
i am working on £1-£1.50 per loaded mile to recover a vehicle.
I am in Dorset and the 1.8 is North of Norwich
The VSX is in Croydon

Going for the 1.8 need a few days to get everything into place, my big issue is the distance but working on it

Re: whats it worth?
That stereo in the second one looks absolutely awful!
Value wise they're both probably around the 2-300 mark. Xantia's just aren't that sought after now, so that's usually the ballpark figure for a car in good order, unless it's something either more unusual like a V6 or Activa. Estates in good nick are probably worth a bit more too.
Rear brake imbalance is most likely the usual caliper to axle corrosion issue, which is pretty easily sorted - assuming the bolts will come out.

Re: whats it worth?
There are some very good articles on this very subject on here... Follow them to the letter and you'll be OK...
Be prepared to replace the discs too...
Colin, good to see you're getting back to a Xantia... I'm bloody glad I've decided to retain one...
I think I would miss a Xantia if I didn't have one in my life....

The right decision if I may be so bold. Should your health deteriorate it will still be there to be sold.
I've decided it's now with me for life Neil... Either its or mine, whichever comes first
I came so close to loosing that car and I know if I had I would have ended up terribly regretting it down the line, just as I did when I sold my 205 GTi and far longer ago, my MG Metro Turbo...

Re:
Yes, I can well appreciate that...
I've got to admit, of all the cars I've had, those two I've spoken above are the only ones really although I do have regrets about letting a certain V6 Xantia I had from Mike (Xantia_V6) go in exchange for an XM..
XMs and I never really bonded despite having a couple of good tries at it...
Now, in light of all of this, I just hope that if I ever have thoughts about selling the Activa again you'll all come down on me like a ton of bricks...
