I was thinking the same the other night when rain poured down non-stop for about 30 hours but nowt can be done about it and judging by the mot history it's likely to have been like that for a couple of years.

Ten years, or even five years ago I'd have tried to buy it and restore it to good health but I think I'm a bit too old now to be scrabbling about under cars for fun.

Anyone else feel like having a go I'll try to find out more.

Just reminded me, a couple of months ago we found the burned out shell of a late model VW (maybe a Jetta or whatever they call them now) down a country walk we do sometimes. Whether it was stolen or just abandoned & torched to wipe identity details out I don't know, but it sat there a good few weeks & I couldn't resist the temptation to sit in the driver's seat frame & pretend I was driving some sort of Yank rat rod (complete with wheel rim as a steering wheel) I'll try dig the photo out.

What always amazes me about that scenario, is the sheer determination to get the car to it's final resting place. I've found them when I've been exploring byeways in a Cherokee which has required its ground clearance & all terrain tyres if not actually 4WD to reach that point/

Edit-: I agree, it wasn't the easiest trail to get this old 'dub to it's spot. I've driven it in a Mk1 pajero and a Range Rover but they seem to manage OK when they're not bothered about the underside. Actually saw a video on youtube of a guy who had his Merc ML stolen from a valeter's place & that ended up being recovered a good 40 yards inside a little wooded area & they needed a chainsaw to get it out again!

When I sold my business I bought a derelict cottage to do up, a guy from across the road came and told me it was his aged parents old home.

So, Gibbo, did you immediately hire a minidigger and go hunting for it? I would've done, and if (when?!) it turned out to be too far gone as to be restored by me I'd have put it on Ebay... "Barn" finds are all the rage lately even if the many listings aren't all strictly out of dry storage, but I wonder how many "dug out of the ground" finds there are on there? And I also wonder what the soil was/is like at the cottage, did it help preserve whatever was left of the car or did it assist in rotting it away further?

I never looked for the buried car, did think about spinning Tony Robinson and his 'Time Team' a yarn about Romans in the area and getting them to do a dig.

As far as I know it's never been dug up, the people who bought the place off me are still there and the garden's lovely................I never told them about the car.
