Re: 'Fingerpost' Direction Signs...
I recall a story I heard when I lived in the Border regions of Scotland. Not far north of Moffatt there is "The Devils' Beef-tub", a valley with very steep sides (but open ended at the Moffatt end). One day an articulated lorry hauling a full load of "McEwans Pale Ale" cans lost control and went over (the driver was either uninjured or had minor injuries). Apparently a farmer wondered what that rumbling noise was, opened the door, and found himself waist deep in cans of McEwans. He made a few phone calls, and Moffatt was emptied in moments. When the firm turned up to recover their lorry and contents, it was empty, and nobody knew anything about it. Moffatt had hangovers for several weeks later.

Reminded of this. Haven't played it for ages.
Andy use to play with the Liverpool Poets - Roger McGough, Adrian Henri & Brian Patten.
My wife had a wonderful LP "The Liverpool Scene" Long gone unfortunately. Swiped by her brother's girlfriend.

When I was a brussel sprout, many years ago, there used to be a joke about asking the local bobby "Excuse me, officer, can you tell me how far is The Old Cock Inn?"

Re: 'Fingerpost' Direction Signs...
It still feels like you've left the known world John! You can still find narrow little roads that you can have all to yourself for the entire ride! can never do that up here High to Low Ham and then to Somerton via Park is a good example hate to drive along it now as it's barely wide enough for a bike! We have wider cycleways up here...jgra1 wrote:good stuff there Jim, I know those Somerset signs well ! my first ever journey alone was cycling to High Ham and Martock.. No, I'm back home now but will be back down next weekend. Possibly the penultimate time...

Drove up to No Place this afternoon, there used to be fingerboards there for No Place, Quaking Houses and Co-Op Villas.
Gone, just these now:
No Place is very nice

Re: 'Fingerpost' Direction Signs...
.....slightly off topic but it is sign giving a direction to divers.
Saw this today near Whitley Bay at a popular diving spot The area around Browns Bay, is a hotspot for scuba diving because it contains the wrecks of the Butetown, the Zephyros and The Astley at just seven metres below the surface. The nearby reef is also home to lobsters, crabs, starfish and octopus..
There's nothing more offensive than a glimpse of bare flesh of course....surely not!
Regards Neil

Re: 'Fingerpost' Direction Signs...
A cracking haul during a 30 mile bike ride this afternoon
This one was found in Newton Blossomville:
This one in Clifton Reynes:
And these two both in Ravenstone:
It was a gorgeous afternoon for a ride and very hot and sunny. I made sure I slapped on lots of SPF50 Even so the Lycra got very sweaty!
The ride was very much a training ride for my Willen Hospice Sportive on Bank Holiday Monday and followed a large part of the route..
