Berlingo Average Mpg Display.

Post by demag »

If I reset the onboard display by pressing the button on the end of the wiper stalk the average mpg jumps about a bit for the first few miles then settles down. After I've done about 20-30 miles it never alters again until I press the reset button. So if I've done 200 miles town driving and its reading 40mpg and I then do a long run, the reading doesn't alter until I've driven about 50 miles or so at higher speed. I'm assuming the average doesn't reset at all unless the button is pressed or there is a significant change in the mpg reading. On most of the other cars I have owned the display updates every 10-20 miles. Is it possible to set this with a Lexia?

That sounds like normal operation. When you have only done a short distance the readout will respond much more rapidly to a change in mpg as its continually updating it, once you have a few miles it takes a much greater deviation from average to change the reading, by the time you have done a few thousand the average has been established so its unlikely to move at all.

I agree with Peter. Quite normal.
From the start it moves rapidly as you accelerate and change gears etc. After putting some miles in, the changes will always be minimal.
IE. On a journey from Surrey to Aberdeen although my speed on the motorway barely changed from 70 mph over 200 miles the MPG reading moved only 1 mpg up from the 44 mpg it was when I started off.
I quite often set the read-out to the setting where you can see the immediate MPG which changes all the time as your driving style changes.

Can be quite an eye opener if you watch the instant MPG, particularly from cold.

Yes it can martin, and it tends to make the right foot a bit lighter.

That's how I get 60 mpg from my C5 - to boring for most people though.

I manage 55 out of mine like that. It's more interesting than driving a C5 like a tool!
