flat battery

Post by dave28 »

Hi all hope someone can help my battery died on my Picasso so went and got a new one all went ok for a few months but now that I am not using the car much the battery keeps going flat every three to four days I have to charge it checked for boot light and glove box light but they are off I did have trouble with the boot lock it kept opening on its own so I replaced that but I just cannot find what is draining the battery when the car is not in use any advice would be good thanks

Are you handy with a small Multi Meter unit???

If you set it up it measure AMPS.. connect it inline between the Positive terminal and battery..IE: Take the Positive lead off, connect it to Black lead of the meter, and then attach the red lead of the meter to the + terminal of the battery somehow. (I use a couple of mole grips) Im sure its the + terminal you use. If you can see how many amps are being drained.

Then you can remove Each fuse one by one at a time and look at the display - it needs ot read 0.01amps in the display before the battery wont discharge. Once you find the fuse that drops the amp drain you can then pin point the Cuircuit causing the drain and go from there.

Had this on a Xantia, and found it to be the casette player was draining. Swapped it for another. problem went away.

In the mean time disconnect the battery when you are not using the car.

Thats a Pain in the behind on the Picassos Peter, it lives under the passenger seat in the car, unless the seat is easy to remove!
