406 "chewit", a round one at that!

Post by gaz4053 »

I have a 2001 406 hdi estate. The remote keyfob disintegrated a couple of years ago, so I have just been doing what we all did 30 odd years ago........put the key in the door, turned it and it locks/unlocks......simple. Then the drivers lock got stiff, and/or just turned round and round......a common problem, it seems, after browsing these (and other) forums. The passenger does the same now, whichever key I use (I have two). Today it took ages to get in the car.......so, I FINALLY got a "chewit".....a round one at that....as I have a couple of weeks off.

So, now that I finally got "around to it" (a round chewit.....geddit??.....oh, never mind!!), I bought a tin of WD40, sprayed a few dabs in each lock, and hey presto...both locks work fine.

Moral of the story? Sort things right away.....saves hours of frustration!!

It can be a common problem with these locks, although the Expert / 806 style ones are very bad for it.
