Original fitted Xantia radio/CD/cassette variants

Post by rmunns »

I've got the radio/cassette option fitted and am looking to go to CD maybe with autochanger. If I find an original Xantia-fitted single CD or autochanger, will I find it simple to fit? i.e. are the wiring harnesses and plug fits the same? Will the steering wheel controls work?

Again, if I go to another setup, will I find the plugs etc are compatible?

What Xantia do you have S1 or S2? Also what radio do you have?

It's an S2 (Sept 2000) Saloon. The radio has no name or model, but it is the one in the original radio handbook that came with the car when new.

I've just noticed that one option available when new was for the radio/cassette to be fitted together with the CD autochanger in the boot.

That is probably my best bet, so I'm looking for a CD autochanger.

Can I assume that the wiring loom to fit this will be somewhere hidden in the boot? Or do I also need something else to connect?

I wonder whether the car originally had the autochanger in the boot, but that it 'vanished' between the first owner and me.

If its the original Clarion unit that supports a CD Changer then you will have a CD button on the front panel. The CD Changer supporting Clarions have a separate round miniDIN connector on the back of the head unit and the cable for it, if fitted, should route around to beneath the carpet under the drivers seat or maybe in the boot.

Saying that though, your car may not have a Clarion as it is a rather late model. Around the end of 99/start of 00, Citroen went back to standard Blaupunkt units which had a head unit adapter as it was smaller than any used before (aftermarket radio size). Im not sure with these new Blaupunkt units what the story is with adding a CDC though I imagine if it did it would support a CDC-A03.
If after all your investigations it does turn out you need a CDC-A03 then give me a shout as I have one in my collection of 'I might need that one day' spares.

Theres 2 options..

One is a Phillips Radio Cassette option, this is easyilly idenetified as it has a Flap that closes over the radio...

The second is the Clarion Facia fitted radio with NO Flap, and as said above has a row of three buttons for Radio/Tape/CD..

Now, if the second radio is fitted, you have half the battle won, you then ONLY need to install a CD changer and 14 pin lead - round Din type.

However, if you have first option, the Plug for the steering controls IS DIFFERENT to the Clarion one, you can still fit the Clarion, but the steering controls wont work, if you are slavaging from a scrap car, you'd need the lead from the radio to the joining plug under the steering colum..

So lets hope then you have my second option above.. makes a battle half won..
