Server Crash: 08 January 2010

Post by CitroJim »

We had a couple of server crashes; one last evening at 19:30 and another this morning at 06:00.

Webfusion were aware and had problems. One crash later (that i did not see) corrupted both the FCF and BXC databases.

Luckily a low-level repair on the affected table worked and we're back in business.

I have very recent backups should it happen again

I'm watching carefully.

The server went down again at 18:30 this evening but guess what! It was to give me a new server :D :D :D :D

Completely without my knowledge, they moved all the data from the old to the new.. It seems OK too...

Hopefully this one will last and not go up and down like a fiddlers elbow...

Fingers and everything else crossed...

I wondered that Steve, especially in view of me stating politely what I thought of them late this afternoon...

Strange this was, I call the tech support when it went down this evening and they had no knowledge of the move. It was only when I received an e-mail with new login credentials that the penny dropped and I realised what they had done..

I've had a wander over the new server and it is new.

I won't be happy until it's lasted a month with no issues whatsoever. W2K3 never failed....

:( :( :(    :x

That pretty much sums up how I feel about this.

Luckily, I have FULL backups from this morning....

Just had a chat with the host...
The engineers had a glitch and are confident they've found the problem, all should be OK now...
One hopes this is the case...

WTF ?

The ENGINEERS - not the equipment - had a glitch ?

Are they still carrying data back & forth between mainframe cabinet units using 8" 150Kb floppies ...
As then I would understand why they had an engineers glitch

BTW happy new year to all 8)

I've been back onto the host this morning and they're having difficulties with the node...

They promise after one more session tomorrow morning that all will then be good. Likely the forums will be unavailable overnight again....

I'm [-o< [-o< [-o< this is the case....

Sorry Anders  It's how I wrote it!

I still remember 150K 8" floppies. Up until about three years ago I still looked after a mainframe with those   And the 64Mb Cartridge disks about the size of a fridge... Those were the days!

Great to see you on here and a very happy new year :D :D :D

Sorry to report that the site was down when I tried to log on at about 9:00pm this evening.
As I get older I think a lot about the hereafter - I go into a room and then wonder what I'm here after.

Been whacked out since about 7.00 pm

Nothing, not even a "contact system administrator" or whatever.
As far as Firefox was concerned the url didn't exist.

Same here. Had to go out at 17:00. When I returned at 19:30 it was down and has just been resurrected.
Galeon, not Firefox. Galeon seems to draw the site better than Firefox.

Same experience here my end.
Also using FF, but wont be a browser issue, if the IP/URL doesnt seem to exist.
Must be some kind of a DNS issue, probably DNS ditched the site as access was not possible.
