STOP and i warning lights

Post by jgra1 »

chaps,

driving to work in this horrible weather, my STOP and the 'i' in a circle with two brackets around it lights came on.. I have not got manual to hand, but am supposed to be driving to Bradford and back early tomorrow, about 400 miles

The pads looked fine recently, although not sure about back ones, but doubt they are wired anyway? Pad wear wouldn't cause a STOP anyway..The handbrake light is a different warning and also wouldn't cause a STOP...

any thoughts? General Hydraulic reservoir level/pressure wouldn't give the brake symbol, and would give the red temp led instead...

can only think a brake pressure problem :( not good

Car is 1.9 TD LX

Hi John,

It is likely to be nothing more than low LHM level. My MK2 brings on that light when the LHM is low. The first time I saw it, I was bleeding my brakes and I had one of those moments wondering what on earth was going on

So, with any luck it is just that. Then, when it dires a bit, see why it is consuuming LHM...

Jim thanks ;)

I did think it may be fluid level, just didnt expect the brake light..

I know of a leak somewhere on the rack, to begin with... but have not had a chance to do anything.

So, I should be fine tomorrow as the leak is fairly slow.. just make sure I grab some LHM asap..

If pad sensors are fitted, then that brings up the yellow warning light, circle with brackets around it (O).

(!) and stop means low LHM level normally.
On Dex (Jim's 2.1TD), stop on it's own meant low coolant level.

It's quite a confusing light that. The STOP light comes on with one or more 'major' warnings like: Oil pressure, Overheating, LHM level and LHM hydraulic pressure.

If your light is coming on on start up and soon goes out it's a sign that the Hydraulic pressure has been reached and is OK, if it then comes on again while driving, maybe flickers on and off, it suggests the LHM level as mentioned already.

However! don't ignore this warning, LHM level can be topped up right enough but if it's the pressure warning (exact same STOP and (!) lights) then it's a different story - you must be sure that the light goes out after startup!

I have a 1977 CX Pallas, and have owned a GSA and BX. On all the original Citroens with Hydraulics, the big STOP light came on with a red warning with a little picture of the LHM tank. You wouldn't mistake it as a'brake' warning at all.. I wonder why they changed it.
