Xantia CT turbo fuel economy.
Moderator: RichardW
I've got an activa and I get nearer 35 to 40 miles to the gallon on a motorway trip. It's the old 8 valve engine with a small turbo bundled onto it. Nothing fancy. Sounds like you're either doing a lot of short trips or driving not very sensibly! I can understand you though, great car to drive - it scares the living daylights out of me sometimes.

The BX and Xantia non turbo would effortlessly surpass the economy your getting from your HDi ... Is there something wrong with it ?? Maybe the pump timing is out ??

That's another tale and something I need to get checked out by someone who knows what they are doing.
Peugeot say that is all they expect in real world conditions and it has improved on the 20 to 25 we were getting a couple of months ago.
Anyway. Before the Turbo Xantia we had a 2.0 8valve which did about the same consumption, as did the 1.9 BX (though I managed 40 out of that on a good run) and the 1.6 BXs I had. The worst consumption I've ever had was from a 1.4 Ford escort which would consistently return mid 20's.
I would say the 2.0 Turbo CT was the best of the petrol engines for the Xantia, it had excellent, effortless performance with decent economy.

Have you thought about a 2.1 td? I think that would have all the performance you want plus 50 mpg. Have a look at the figures. My XM averages 40-45 mpg and thats considerably heavier, although admittedly I do live in a rural area. Diesels are much better on short runs, maybe X 2.

I am lucky enough to have a private import 2.1 TD XM's, perfect for Australia. Main problem is that being a diesel it will have no value when I sell it, perhaps Shane will be ready to buy it in a few years[:o)] when the first round of C6's come onto the market.

255Nm- not a speed deamon but fast enough. Feels a bit faster than my old CX 2400 C-matic. Only problem is that the gear ratios are not suited to 60km/h speed limits. The 2.5 must be pretty quick, but people here say the cooling system is not up to the task.
