That LDS did look a bit black to me, so changing 4 litres will be good for the system. Obviously if one is going to replace the LDS fluid, getting as much of the old stuff out is important and depressurising with Diagbox if you have this is an easier and much quicker way to do it and will get more fluid out.
Once you get your ride heights corrected, that will help with the ride quality - definitely seems to be a little high Vlad. As long as you have bled the system properly - that will also help with getting rid of any air in the system.

I just did this on my '06 C5 with success.
I want to add a tip: I suspected that the cap on the hydraulic tank was the same as the cap for the brake fluid tank. So I tested with the "One Man Bleeder tool" Without any brake fluid of course, I connected this to a wheel (with 0,5 bar pressure) and into the hydraulic tank. It worked as supposed, and the bleeding prosess was done fast.
BTW I have used the same bleeder kit sucessfully to bleed a empty brake circuit via Lexia. A long process to bleed the brakes as I was alone to do the job, but it worked fine.

I am about to change the spheres on the front of my C5 (Hydractive 3+) and I bought a vacuum bleeding kit with the capability of 0.5bar on the gauge.

Indeed, 0.5bar is a reduced pressure, not increased pressure, and that's (0.5bar) what the workshop manual states - though for the pedants out there, 1bar is not quite atmospheric pressure
However....... the Facom 920 tool is a simple cooling system pressure testing kit, and the pressure gauge on it sits at '0' when at rest. When at rest it's open to atmosphere, so their scale is incorrect as it's showing a vacuum. My guess is both the workshop manual and the Facom tool graduations are a bit of a FUBAR and what they actually mean is 1.5bar.

I don't know what the Facom tool is like but the Repco tool I have is correctly graduated, when you squeeze the hand trigger it generates vacuum and correctly shows 0.5bar as you 'suck' with the tool. I don't think there's any FUBAR in the workshop procedure. For example, if you push air into the reservoir at 1.5bar then you need to use bleed points elsewhere in the system to release trapped air bubbles. There is no mention of doing that in the instructions. EDIT: you inspired me to double-check markings on my Repco tool and I guess you could say it's wrong in the sense that it uses negative scale, and the needle starts at zero. But I think that's quite forgivable given it's easier to understand vacuum as negative numbers relative to atmospheric pressure. So 0.5bar on the Repco is represented as -0.5bar, i.e. 0.5bar below 1bar (which is represented as ZERO). Vacuum for dummies I guess because it makes sense to me!

I think the workshop manual reference to 0.5bar should be read as 0.5bar over atmospheric pressure as the hydraulic system needs a slight over-pressure to prime it after it's been drained.

Fair enough, so on that basis it must be a self-bleeding system. There's two versions of pressure= gauge and absolute.
In this application it would be normal to take these as gauge pressures, hence 0.5 bar above atmospheric (hence positive pressure)

Hello everyone. I have newly bought a C5 2.0 HDI 2011 with hydractive III+ suspension. The car is at 240K km. After changed the suspension fluid the steering wheel and the suspension become roughly 30-40 % harder then before. When I got the car back from the service, I felt the hardness of the steering wheel while turning and it was difficult to turn the steering wheel lock to lock position. I called the service and described the situation and they said that it is normal. After I’ve learned the the fluid was used Mannol 8302 LDS instead of Total LDS. When I checked the technical data sheets of both fluids, viscosities are 18 and 31 cP. I think it is happening because of that.
Well, I have ordered 5L Total LDS and I will change the fluid on my own. The method I planned is lower the position of the car and drain the fluid in the reservoir by a hose by applying vacuum(engine will be turned off). After that I will add same amount of Total LDS and put the car high position turn the steering wheel lock to lock. Than repeat this 2 or 3 times in total. What do you think about the procedure. Can it be effective to change most of the fluid?

No, don't do it like this way!! You should do this with depressed the system with a diagbox.
The procedure is, lower the car in the lowest position, then depressed the system with the diagbox, then behind the mud protector at the front right wheel you can drain the system by disconnecting the hose you see there coming from the LDS tank.

If you want to replace as much oil as possible, you should depressurize (can be done via the nipple on right front suspension and middle rear), and you can unhook the return hose from steering rack before the hose enters the cooling pipe, in front inside the left front wheel. I've done this 2 times (I also put on a special hydraulic oil filter at that return hose from steering), both times used close to 6 liters.
When you depressurize the car will lower even a little more, and some more oil comes out (via the nipple if manually done, or via hose at bottom of tank if done via Diagbox).

@MattBLancs: if you don't depressurize, the car stands higher, so there's still LDS fluid in the struts!!
At the other hand it's not necessary to put the 0,5 bar at the tank, because there keep still LDS in the compressor of the pomp, the only moment this pressure is necessary when the pomp is replaced, or the high pressure tubes are removed from the pomp.

Hello again. I applied the method I described above. I was able to take out roughly 2,5L old fluid inside the reservoir. Considering the total amount of fluid as 4,5L, Took out 60%. Applied the high/low positions 3 times and lock to lock the steering wheel each step. It was obvious that the steering wheel and the suspension is better now. I will drive the car for a while and apply the same procedure. I think, I will be able to renew the 85% of the old fluid.
During the procedure I compared the viscosities of the both fluids. There was considerable difference.
I applied this procedure, because I do not have lexia diagnostic device to depressurize the system.
Let’s see what is going to happen in the upcoming days.
