Good point well made! I did see a comment on Facebook from a prolific poster that they were refusing to fill the census as it was too intrusive

Several pointed out that this particular person had discussed details of their private life on Facebook and in full public view far more deeply than any census would ask...

I should have chosen a better picture to mark "Census Day". The Office for National Statistics illuminated Blackpool Tower in Purple to mark the occasion yesterday.

Pete Benton, ONS Director of Census Operations, commented:
"We wanted to shine a (purple!) light on the buildings and landmarks that matter most to their local areas, highlighting the importance of the Census in helping shape the communities we live in."

One of the things the census was desperate to know was how many cars did your household have on March 21st 2021. I think we confidentially answered....

I don't agree that such a move would be more thorough. It would automatically exclude all those, mainly older citizens who never go online and don't use any computers
Our care homes and residential retirement homes are full of such people and then there are those like me who do everything possible to avoid the companies you mention collecting any data at all. I would make a conservative estimate that 10-15% of the population would be missed so it could not be 'more thorough'!!
