EDIT: Lack of functioning air conditioning was key downside of otherwise comfortable trip in the "back up option" grey 308 SW.

I know you people are having an exceptionally hot summer, and it’s very uncomfortable for you. But it’s still funny to read about the lack of a functioning air conditioner in the car ruining your car trip.

Indeed, it's been quite a pleasantly warm summer here and I've loved it Thing is Andrew, that Pomland is not geared up for reasonably warm dry summers and even moreso, the Poms themselves are not in any way acclimatised and have struggled somewhat.

Given a few more summers similar to what we've just had, I'm sure both our infrastructure and the inhabitants of this fair isle will adjust.

The problem I find with modern cars is they are designed to be climate-controlled and when the aircon gives up it all fails. Opening all the windows just doesn't cut it. My AX was never designed to have aircon and opening both front windows and the sunroof when it's knocking on 35 degrees produces an agreeable place to be; my Picasso just becomes a noisy, turbulent mess with the windows open. Like living through a cyclone...

Oh yes, I know it's not "proper hot" and, yep it's definitely us not used to any sort of higher temperatures. 15-20 °C is "just nice", above 25 or so - I'm flagging a bit.

I do realise those in Europe and indeed down under will have another 10-15 degrees above that and wonder what the fuss is all about.

587 miles covered since Friday, rather warm and sticky in the Grey 308 again and a quick detour to GSF Norwich to pick up this magic position:

Unfortunately didn't make an appreciable difference on the new message we've picked up:

Risk of particle filter blockage. Please refer to owner's handbook

Mostly appearing very briefly on medium throttle (heavy throttle didn't guarantee it appeared, which seems odd) I guess we're seeing high DPF differential pressures and it's momentarily triggering that message. Will see if I've enthusiasm for a diagnostic session this evening

I think this wants the DPF swapping (or professionally cleaned out, off car) it's done 132,588 miles now - I had messages previously (from memory, a different message from this time?? Will check this blog as am sure I logged it here)

I've got an aftermarket DPF "on the shelf" - bought when the messages appeared previously - that'll get fitted this coming weekend hopefully.


I'm not sure the potion has done anything to be honest!

Temporary fix the can, if you keep it this way it soon works out more then buying a new one , if it was done once a month for over a year and a half ive even tried to trick the dpf by resetting with diagnostic, didn't work , ive got my eye on one its about £127 that's just for the bottom part not the whole canister , then theres the risk of the lower sensor nuts or bolts being a pain to get undone, everything has a service life I guess

Ah, so we are in similar boat with mileage (within 20k of each other, pretty close. And neither car in the "first flush of youth"

Yes risk is just that ,, a risk , if it was blocked I think the car would not want to run , good luck with the bed time thing , I remember all that when my lot were little .

When ever I've run live data on the car when this warning pops up the soot content has never been over 20% think one time it was 14% full of soot then a week later 8... the sensors could be the main factor also due to age and service life .The weird thing is when I had my 207 it had the same engine but a lower tax band , I must of put 15000 miles on it in my ownership, it never once nagged about dpf stuff at all
