207 Randomly Cuts Out...

Post by CitroJim »

For anyone who's not seen my blog...

My daughter's 207 1.4 with the ET3 engine (basically a 16v TU) randomly cuts out and needs an ignition off to restart it. It's been doing this on and off for a while now but it's getting more frequent. I consider it's dangerous for Robyn to drive it like this and in any case she's lost all confidence in the car. I consider it's a deathtrap.

She's now taken custody of my erstwhile C1 and I now have the 207 to do as I see fit with

The problem has defied all attempts to diagnose it and now we've basically given up for now so I’ve laid it up pending a decision on its future. I may play with it at some point but we all agree we can't sell it as it is and if we did sell it then we'd have to be honest and that makes it worthless so for now it's just sitting on my drive...

In any case I consider it too dangerous to sell except as a cube...

Several BSI resets have not resolved the issues and PP2000 tells me nothing of value...

Apart from that, although high mileage and has had a hard life, it's not a bad car...

If anyone has any suggestions I'd be pleased to hear them ;)

Jim I just posted about this in your blog.

Basically theres recalls on the 207 for cutting out.

First reason Battery Earth Return. Lots of recalls for differing problems like wrong length, wrong spec, installed incorrectly over various years.

Second reason BSI Torqued incorrectly at manufacture, details on your blog.

Shame, thought you may have a nice easy fix there.

So did I when I first spotted it about a year or so ago James

Sadly, not...

I think we're looking at a new BSI...

Just replied in blog too, I think we are getting confused with BSI & BSM.
Never heard of a BSI causing a car to cut out, stop it starting yes but not cutting out.

Does this 207 have an in-tank furl pump Jim? If so, have you checked to see if the electric feed is constant? It's not over difficult to run a extra wire to the live connector on the fuel pump and use that to illuminate a bulb. If the bulb goes out and car stops shortly afterwards you do at least have a direction to look at.

Wheeler, thanks, all very new to me, all this BSM and BSI stuff. My knowledge stops dead at early S2 Xantias!!! I don't know anything about cars made in the 21st century

I would imagine it does have a in-tank pump Paul but one problem I have is that I've not actually experienced it cutting out. Robyn tells me the whole car seems to die and the dash goes dark but she's not sure if it's all of it or just parts......

IGN switch? Not unknown on PSA vehicles. Are there any details available about the recall's fix?

Now that's a good one Chris. I must try wiggling it to see if I can provoke it...

So far, I've never been able to provoke it and if only I could it would make it easier to trace...

The recalls, I understand, concerned wrongly terminated earth leads from the battery and excessively torqued connections to the BSM module...
