It is higly unlikely to be anything to do with the glow plugs of their relay.

As it is coming up with the cam sensor fault I'd be going back & checking the woodruff key on the cam pulley has not sheared, this can often happen with a broken/jumped timing belt on this engine. If the head has been away for a repair this could be easily missed as the pulley doesent need to be removed from the camshaft to remove the shaft. If this has happened the timing could have been set up perfectly but it will be out very slightly on the camshaft. Although it still fired on easy start this could be due to the easy start being a lot more volatile than diesel, the engine would rattle when running on easy start anyway so this could mask a timing issue. It may also only be very slightly out so still showing cam & crank syncronisation.

Am I right in saying to check the timing I could just turn the engine til I can lock the cam sprocket and then see if the crank/ flywheel locking pin lines up??

Thanks for the reply wheeler. I'll be checking this today as the mechanic was sure of timing but I'm still suspicious. Another thread I read someone was getting cam sensor fault after head repair and it was their timing by two teeth

wiring to fuel pressure sensor needed fixed, so that fault has now cleared. but everytime i crank i get cam sensor fault, so measured voltages to the sensor with ign on and got 5v, earth and 10.31!! is this off?

Change a cam sensor, The way you can do this is by, having a noide light, and unplug the injectors, and see if there is any electric going to them? if not its your crank sensor either faulty or thinks that the timing is wrong.
