High folks
I have a problem, the rear tyres of my 406 Hdi have worn badly on the inside edges, this is obviously partly my fault as when I replaced the tie rods last year I didn't realise that the camber was adjustable via the eccentric washers on the inner end bolt, anyway I have now adjusted them fully out to reduce the camber, the n/s one is OK but the o/s has something like 10 degrees of negative camber and I can't see why. I have levered all the bushes I can see with a 3' crow bar and can't find any movement, obviously if I leave it like this the tyre wont last very long, can anyone help?
Thanks
Peter

Re: 406 rear camber
hang on peter..
the eccentrics adjust the toe in-out not the camber? i.e. they could/ would cause the scrubbing but not the lean..
I think if there is lean it must be the trailing arm bearings.. a common fault with psa it seems, after a high milage ?

Re: 406 rear camber
I don't think it has trailing arm bearings it seems to be a multi link system. The eccentric washers set the position of the top link which does in fact alter the camber, do they alter the tracking as well?

Re: 406 rear camber
Thanks but no evidence of it, looks like I will have to take it apart.

Re: 406 rear camber
hmm maybe the coupe is different Peter.. definitely the coupe lads all get their tracking done on 4 wheels.. I adjusted mine as best as I could last time I was under it.. although that was a year ago so I cant remember..

Re: 406 rear camber
I had a four wheel alignment done on my 607 last year because the back was skipping to one side on some manhole covers.
I think that the eccentric thing only adjusts toe in/out

Re: 406 rear camber
Thanks for all the info folks, having looked a bit more carefully at the book I find there is a seperate adjustment for the camber and the tracking but the error is definatly in the camber setting as you can see the angle of the wheel is something like an inch out top to bottom, you can actually see it leaning, looks like a Xantia with duff trailing arm bearings. I have had a spirit level on it and whilethe o/s is near vertical the n/s wheel is visibly leaning in at the top by a lot, the tyre is not square to the ground. I will investigate further tommorrow.
