406 HDI,At last!!

Post by np »

Well, been away for a while, still working away in Cornwall. For those of you rememember my past topics about buying a 406 Hdi,i`m now definatly buying my Dad`s company 406.Oct `03 53 reg,110 est SE,half leather,Pug sat nav, cruise control, elec seats ect.Max of 56k miles, new MOT,6mths tax,FPSH,all for the very cheap price of £5600,although that price may go down again because its valid till the end of sept.4 weeks ago it was £6200!!!
He`ll be getting his new 407 towards the end of oct,so wont have to wait too long :D .
I reckon thats a great price, most of the 406`s i`ve seen with the same spec & year seem to be around the £8k mark.

Hi np :)

How are you?

Good to see you back.

Well that's a great specification, and at a good price, so I hope you enjoy it when you become its new owner. :)

Back again, just had a week in Malta :D .Lovely place.
I`m ok thanks ACTIVE8.Have been working away in Cornwall since Jan,living in our caravan.Back to work tomorrow,so might not be going back to Cornwall, might be a bit more local.Kinds of gets a bit much spending too long away from home  .
Oct 23rd for getting my Dad`s car, cant wait :D ,will get a final price & all the paperwork at the end of this month. Then as long as i`ve sent the paper work & cheque off to the lease company,i can have the car as soon as he picks up his new one. They dont even need to recieve the payment for me to take the car,as long as its in the post.Very trustworthy of them! :D .Then my good old Xantia will be on Ebay middle of Oct.Hopefully get some money for it.

I'd call thier bluff, but be prepared to loose the car ( or at least find out which auction it's being taken to, and get it cheaper that way  )

I'd point out to the leasing company the savings thier making on

Well, got it at last today :D :D .So nice after driving my wifes Astra.56154 miles on it.Will need to service it at 60k,& will need some front tyres by then,My Dads been off work for a while,so has`nt used the car as much, otherwise he would have had it serviced & new tyres, but never mind.
His new 407 is very nice. Its a Hdi SE est,but has cloth seats,& there not electric, unlike my half leather & electric :D

Did they not lower the price with the work that needs doing?
Nice car though. What mpg are you getting from it? Any plans on remapping it?

Final price was £6300,sold on trade terms. Most SE`s on the same reg with same milage are about £8k.Service is only a minor 1 which i will do myself. Not worried about keeping service history stamped as will be keeping it for a good few years.
On a run up to North Wales at the w/end(hello Oily :) )trip computer said average of 43 mpg.Been up & down the M5 all week to work, cruise control set at 90  ,been getting average of 42.6 mpg.Much more economical than the Xantia.
Having it re mapped next week by a man just past Birmigham,£175= 140 bhp & 221 lbft torque :D .Got it off Ebay, all positive feedback, everyone well impressed,so should make it much better. :)

Let us know how the remap goes / how it feels after.
One question on the sat nav - how do you find it?
Do you find it restrictive - in that it uses a small radio info type screen to relay directions - or is it a case of simple being best cause it works?

I find the sat nav ok.Although i tend to agree with my Dad that the systems that use the birds eye view from above have more detail.
But its quick & simple to use,& with the direction arrows & voice commands, you dont get over loaded on infomation. :D

Hi every body,a very long time since i`ve been on here  On the 406 owners club for years now.Thought i`d post an update.Still have the 406.Now on 174k miles.Still on the original clutch & dual mass flywheel, injectors,& both fuel pumps, and never had the a/c regassed and it still blows ice cold.So far i have replaced,3 wheel bearings/hubs,2 abs sensors, oil presure & water temp sensor, therostat, had the alternator recond, replaced rear springs and shocks at 150k only because the rear was sagging when hitched up to our caravan. Then just before xmas a front spring snapped while the car was parked at work.So replaced both struts, shocks & springs,& drop links.Need to do the top bearings now.Had a few exhausts & a new cat.Loads of brake disks on the the front due to warping untill i fitted some drilled & grooved disks in aug 2011,they are still going strong.
So all in all not too bad for 174k miles.Currently doing 500 miles a week to work but 400 of that is motorway. It still tows our caravan fine,so god knows when the clutch will give up.There are owners on the 406oc that have needed a new clutch & dmf at 40k miles,so i think mine is doing well
