Clarion multi changer

Post by seanrx »

Hi.
Any advice on how to get power to it?
There is a bulb on front, which isn't lit up.
How to fix and where to start?
I assume the fuse box under the glove box.

Car model & year (VIN better still) and the Clarion model would help for a start. There are several Clarion CD-changer units and only some are compatible with CAN car electrical systems - so getting the right one is important, but assuming you have, we need the VIN to determine the head unit you have and whether there is already the wiring there or not.

The CD changers are generally powered via the vehicle's head unit and the CD-Changers were (on the C5 at least) stored wither under the front Passenger seat or in the boot (saloon). If under the seat, there will be a bracket and possibly the wiring connector already there for connection - but on the C5 they MUST be the correct one to work wit the multiplexed system.

Marc. A very late reply.

My vin is:VF7**************[VIN obfuscated, can be read by forum staff]*********

Also, the dash CD works okay and on the LCD screen, no prompts for multi changer (if there should be some).
My changer is under the driver seat, will this mean its a rogue item? And model name? Just 'Clarion' and one grey rectangle button behind a sliding horizontal door.

Ok so according to your specs, this was fitted as standard at the factory. The Clarion unit should have a marking of 9647427980 which is the model for your car.

So are you saying this has stopped working then?

There should be a 12 Pin Blue connector under the seat that plugs into the CD Changer.

The only fuse is in the BSI Fuse holder compartment under the glovebox - but I doubt it is that as it is used for the whole Audio system and the suspension, Trailer, Switch Module, Screen and Radio Telephone if fitted. It is Fuse F8 20Amp.

So I would check that the connector is ok and also that it is actually connected at the back of the Head Unit - although it may well be incorporated into the main Quadblock connector. Always worth checking that the plugs are in tight enough.

If disconnecting any plugs, it is recommended that you open the bonnet first, close all the doors and allow the BSI to sleep for 3-5 mins without opening any doors. Then disconnect the battery negative terminal. Also, always ensure you remove the Quadblock connector first, before the screen cable and apply the reverse when reconnecting.

Follow the BSI / Battery reconnection procedure when finished to ensure the BSI and associated ECUs are initialised correctly.

If you do need a new CD Changer, then you now have the part number: (9647427980)

Here is an example - they are about £30.
