Xantia clutch

Post by Xantia97 »

Hi All,
Any idea how much it would cost to replace a Xantia 1.9TD 1997 clutch in the UK please? Just been given a quote by the local Citroen garage here in France for 1117 euros, at todays exchange rate £789     I know I can get the parts from Mister Auto for under 200 euros, that's a Valeo clutch and new cable, but there's no way we can fit them ourselves. Need to know if this is the normal cost for a fitted clutch. I don't think I can justify spending another 1000 euros on the car, spent 2000 euros last year

Thanks,
Juliet

Whoa, that is taking the mickey! Even Halfrauds will only charge £500! The Flying Clutchman will be able to let you know what a fair price will be. (How are the cats, by the way?).

Hi James,
I thought the cost was a bit excessive

The Maine Coons are fine, but sadly we had to put our elderly black moggy, Geri, to sleep a couple of weeks ago. We have now realised that she (Geri) was bullying Alfred (the larger Maine Coon, 3x Geri's size but a big gentle giant) and he is now a much happier cat - chasing grasshoppers in the garden like he used to before we rescued Geri, being much more friendly and demanding attention. We are very upset to have lost Geri but the change in Alfred is a consolation. Basile the other Maine Coon is still living up to his nickname of 'El Diablo' How are your four-legged friends?

My Mums' dog, Brandy, is doing well. She still has a problem with her shoulders (spondylitis), but the treatment is helping with that. My cousin on the Isle of Wight has a large dog (Barnum), and a grey cat (Gideon, shortened (ish) to Giddy cat), and they get on really well.
Without taking the mickey (any further) I suggest you book a holiday to Hastings, and get Citronut to sort out the clutch at the same time. Unless you go over the top you will get the job done and a holiday combined for the same price as that garage wants to charge you!

Hi James and Malcolm,
I'm seriously considering bringing the car to you Malcolm to be fixed, I've been studying the logistics all afternoon :-D So don't put your prices up yet!!!
I can't make a decision until after a doctors appointment on Friday though.
What sort of notice would you need to get parts etc.? If I do bring her to you it will be the clutch, and if possible a seized glow plug (the Citroen garage here won't touch it), check strut tops and anything else you think of that has been neglected by the clowns over here - I can send you all the details, service history etc. by PM if you're happy to accept the challenge of a Citroen that has been tampered with by French mechanics

Great idea James, thanks :-D

Sounds like a good deal.

My clutch pedal is quite high to engage, hoping that an adjustment of the pedal is all it needs....

never done a v6! Pricewise I'd agree about £300 give or take a bit (depending on distance) for a TD.
