Filler Cap Button

Hi Guys

Just noticed there is a small 'green' button under the fuel filler cap on my V6, it is pushed in by the cap as it is screwed on.

What is this button for anyone?

Possibly the central locking tab. Some Xantias had a solenoid that lock the fuel cap when the car is locked.

It's not the central locking, the central locking operates a pin that pops out from the left hand side to lock the flap itself. Shown in the red outline on the left in it's extended, locked position:

The green button is the one shown in the red outline on the right.

I'd also like to know what the green button does - the only thing I can think of is it's a switch to set off the alarm if someone defeats the flap locking pin and tries to unscrew your filler cap while the alarm is armed, but I haven't tested it to see if it does anything.

did any XANT have a fap, if so maybe it is to dispense a shot of fap fluid into the fuel system every tiime the cap is removed/refitted?????

No Xantia's had a FAP as far as I know which is why I didn't suggest it, but I just realised the original poster didn't say he had a Xantia! We just somehow assumed that...

So if it's a C5 it could well be related to the FAP/DPF. Still doesn't answer what the green button does on my Xantia though.

Always amazed that you guys can come up with an answer to a problem, given that the car is described as a "V6"?

As I recall, a V6 is an engine, and has been fitted to dozens of different makes and models of vehicle.

Sorry lads - It is a Xantia - series 2, 1999.

I just assumed I'd get an answer like "you idiot, it's a xxxxx" but no, I seem to have opened some scalp wounds with people scratching their heads.
