I remember seeing those old paraffin heaters that were meant to be put under the bonnet
I have successfully used a low powered fan heater this week, five minutes of that and the windows are clearing well, ten minutes and the interior is pretty comfy, Once rolling I seem to have warm air within a couple of miles, my HDI LX has the electric type of water heater, I am unsure when it operates ? does anyone know ?

Re: Ice - scrape or spray ?
I usually have my car in the garage so its a quick getaway on a morning but for the ones which live out I use a fan heater, which defrosts the car quickly and makes the inside warm too

These are the units you really want to go for
http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/items/?_nkw=w ... 3020555047" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;
Run on a very varied diet of fuels unofficially of course and boy do they kick out heat!
i reckon 10-15minutes would do most Xantias or XM's with the interior fan set to a medium speed

Re: Ice - scrape or spray ?
A couple of hot water bottles filled from the kettle and left on the dashboard while I nip back in for a shower always did the trick, before we started putting it in the garage. Now I just have a frozen padlock to contend with...
