OBD is a defined standard that only supports limited diagnostics using a set of standard codes. Whereas a dealer tool can give manufacturer codes on anything on the 'Bus' that is setup to do so, plus read live data and code new parts to the vehicle. It's like comparing a magnifying glass to a microscope.

Going by your actual question with "basic code reading and deleting", then you may as well go for a £10 OBDII reader, since you'll also need a Laptop and setting up the software to use a lexia. A fairer test would be the OBDII Tools that cost £70+, that can read live sensor data, and build graphs from it.

And with those, if you had to chose one, then it's really dependent on whether you have other cars or not (or are planning to).... An OBDII Tool would be better suited for someone with different brands of vehicles, or maybe not planning on staying with Citroen/Peugeot, since the tool will work on any vehicle. The lexia will give you far more information and options (i.e. what the dealer can do) on the Citroen/Peugeot cars.

Looks alright on the surface however:

The ones they recommend seem to be around the £100 mark (again).

I use a £15 Bluetooth dongle with Torque Pro and it works fine, it was however the second one that the seller sent me as the first one was DOA.

If you want to buy a cheap USB dongle and read any modern car's basic fault codes then you get one of the ELM 327 cables from eBay. You will also have to procure appropriate Windows software for the cable too. I use an ELM 327 with software called PCMScan from time to time and it also works fine.

The best thing to get for your own car will always be a manufacturer specific piece of equipment, I.e. Lexia for PSA, VAG-COM for VAG, etc.

The £78 Lexia's on eBay are cheap Chinese clones that don't work properly on some cars and can't run Diagbox versions later than 5.29 as the interface boxes are blacklisted in the later software versions... they're not the same as the ones sold through easydiagnostics, so I hardly think you've been robbed ;)

Just check this thread for examples of the problems people are having with the cheaper clone Lexia's from eBay:

Did you not see this one? the £15 Bluetooth adapter seems to give hit and miss results due to build quality, and has seemingly caused some larger issues. The recommended ones put it back straight in the lexia ball park.

Point still stands from my earlier post too. It comes down to whether you want to have the extra functionality that Diagbox gets you for Citroen/Peugeot cars that you cannot do with other devices, or whether you want something that is car-agnostic. Obviously you can also factor in local availability of kind FCF members with them :)
By all means go for one of the £15 adapters.. but when I get a warning on the site of the developer of the software to use with it saying "try to avoid if possible", I generally will heed that advice :)
