Killed my C5 in the floods!!!

Post by waynedance »

Ok yeah its silly but went in a flood and got water in the engine.

Removed the injectors and a lot of water came from No1 piston, got the engine running but it runs lumpy as if a cylinder down, smokes and cuts out if you try to rev it.
I few people have said a con rod will be bent and the valves should be fine, what are your thoughts.

I guess the next step is to remove the head and the sump to check for damage.

I have a suspected bent con rod on mine after doing this same thing but she runs fine after fully warm but was suggested getting a compression test done if it is bent then one cylinder will be way out and from what they said before new engine or car sorry

I am going to remove the head next week and sump and see what damage there is, will report back on the findings.

I hope to get her running again, will spend a grand if needed as to good a car to scrap.

have you checked the intercooler for water - remember this will still be full of water after you have blown it out of the combustion chambers!

defo on the rod though be they usually run ok with one bent rod.

I will check the intercooler, do you think I will get away with just removing the sump and trying the con rod/s first? Replace the damaged ones and see how the engine runs.

no wayne if its bent a rod its a proper strip you may be better off with a replacement engine.

to be honest it should run if you get the water out of it - i ran a 1.9 xud for another 50k with a bent rod! it smoked a bit under load, i lost about 5mpg and i had to wait for the click of the relay rather than the glow plug light going out to start it but it ran fine!

when i buy a motor now i remove the stupid low air intake trunking and put it in the bin!

Good move, on the new C5 the air intake is right at the very top just under the bonnet.

I had this happen many years ago with a Perkins diesel, not only had the con rod bent but it had also taken a lump out of the bottom of the cylinder liner, I fitted a secondhand rod and it ran perfectly.

I have my fingers crossed it will be a simple con rod change as I really like the car and the engine did run fine (90k).
