Re: 1.6 hdi oil change
I see a C4 Citroen with similar problems, all the turbo hoses had collapsed where there was no pressure in the system. We drained the oil out and it was like molasses, he however got away with it, we flushed the engine + oil/filter change and all was good again. How long it continued to run though i don't know, i suspect the damage was already done.

Very interesting pictures indeed ... Thanks for sending
I usually change every 6-8 k miles and use engine flush.

Re: 1.6 hdi oil change
That's horrible! Any idea when the oil was last changed on this engine? (Other than a long time ago!)
Re: 1.6 hdi oil change
Well it was done at a dealers, who told him they had no idea why it was so thick.
Will check tomorrow, but I think it's 2k over, so 14000 miles. Just can't understand why people do this .
Interestingly, the engine was rattling so bad, hydraulic lifters empty.
I have cleaned all the sump out, pulled the oil filter out ( like a lump of rock).
I have put a used oil filter in it and some new oil, and a flush, ran it for half an hour, with mole grips on the turbo impeller to stop it chewing up and falling in the engine, believe it or not it's as quite as a mouse now
I have left it draining tonight, and will flush tomorrow again, then decide wether to put a turbo on it.

Re: 1.6 hdi oil change
That is especially bad even for 14K I think. Then again...
I'd never leave any derv engine of my own (as in own money) longer than 6 maybe 9K at the very most, regardless of what the manufacturer said.

Re: 1.6 hdi oil change
This does appear to be extremely dirty for 14K miles worth of driving, given that these are supposed to go for up to 20K mile on some Citroen service schedules.
I serviced a 1.6HDi C4 which had done 24/25K miles since the last one, the oil was very odd looking, it felt dry and could not have been any more dirty but it drained out fine. I replaced it with new oil and then did another oil and filter change (after a flush) a month later and after the the new oil became clean on the dipstick after a short drive, it was black on the previous change.
That looks like its been set for a service it has not recieved or its just been missing services.
I would buy a 1.6HDi car, but only if it had been on short service schedules which had been completed. Same with buying our current C5s, I was looking for ones which had been serviced every year or 10K miles at most.
My cousin has just bought a 1.6HDi 407 about a month ago, the turbo has just failed at 60K miles. I think it only has some service history, so probably every 20K

Re: 1.6 hdi oil change
I would love to know why the oil has done this, I reckon it's had the wrong oil in it, or a mix of some sort. I have had another like this before, so would love to know for sure .
The owner reckons it hasn't been topped at all , and it was dealer serviced.
The dpf seemed to be very blocked. Will quizz him more on collection.

Re: 1.6 hdi oil change
Could the blocked DPF add to this blackened oil? These should have the low sulphur oil, I bet it hasn't.

Re: 1.6 hdi oil change
I think the dpf is some of the problem, also the egr valve, I have a C 3 that comes to me with the egr blocked off, and the oil is super clean in that car.
