Estate series 2, as pictured here:

Image

Can anyone indicate by listing the numbers, which parts always need replacing (other than the bearings 8), which parts frequently show wear, and which parts are good to reuse? 124K miles/200K kilometres on original bits.

I'm too far from stockists, for oversight to be a good thing!

Thanks, Adam.

The arm 'A' can be worn but in practise as long as it will still fit the bearing tight you can get away with it. I pack the space between the bearings with grease as its lack of it that usually causes the bearings to fail.

Thanks, gents. Does Part #7 last OK? They come in bags of four, anyhow. :?

Genuine parts pricing ain't cheap; the bearings alone run to about 85 Euro from my usual supplier. I assume they are not a common type!

15 and 16 are upper and lower bump stops,

Adam if you track down the C5 rear arm bearing thread i posted GSF and SKF's part No,

the bearings and seal's are the same for XANT, BX, CX,

citroen do ask an arm and six legs for there bearings,

the plastic linner i usualy dont remove at all,

just run two short beads of mig at oposite sides of each outter race, this not only gives you something to drift them out by, but the heat quite offten cause's them to almost drop out,

useing this method it usualy only just slightly melts the edge of the linner which will still be useable,

Stekelly mine are the same..

on a Citroen they get a lot more use than a normal sprung car, as when ever the suspension is on low I guess they are the only point of contact..
worse if you drive around on low! which I am sure we have all done sometime :D

Drive on low? Not me.

I haven't actually found a supplier of cheaper estate bearings than PSA - the Corteco and SNR kits only seem to come in a saloon bearing size.

Interestingly, the spacers (Part 9) are quite dear and by the photos, don't seem to come in either kit named above!

Take the number off the bearings and contact a specialist bearing supplier, got ones for my CX much cheaper. You still have to buy the seals from Citroen.

here is a copy and paste from the C5 suspension thread,

here are price's and part No.'s
from GSF
bearings (2 per arm )
512pc0080 £10.38 each inc vat trade

SKF's No.'s
VKD 24000
bar code ref
7 316577 732361

seals (2 per arm)
512pc0100 £2.60 each inc vat trade

from dealer
bearing bush's ( require 2 per arm)
5133.26 £2.96 each inc vat trade

spacer/pivot tube (1 per arm)
5132.68 £7.56 each inc vat trade

all in £38.56

i fitted the above parts onto a C5 estate,

ignor the C5 specific components,

Hi Malcolm,

Almost all of the C5 Estate bits are different codes in ServeIce Blocks. For that reason I'm assuming they are sized differently. :(

the BX/XANT bearings do fit the C5 estate,

the only bits that are diferent are the bearing bush's and spacer tube,

also No. 9 is the shim washer which as you say does not come in the kit, and citroen sell in an asorted pack,

C5 Estate has the same bearings as a C5 sedan; that's where the confusion creeps in I think.

Xantia estate bearings also apply to CX estates.

Due to a desire to minimise downtime (36 hrs ideally) I am going to eat the cost of genuine bits. My confidence that SKF locally could match the bearing in reasonable time, is too low.

Of course, downtime estimates will be shagged if I bust a rear caliper retaining bolt at the same time!

just buy arm kits as for a BX, CX and XANT i think for those modles it is the cheapest way, and they are usualy SKF,
