does anyone know if I can put 215 65 15's on my exclusive alloys?
Standard is 205 65 15...

Xantia tyre size question

Why 215?
Standard size should be 206/60/15, wider and taller may cause problems and throw the speedo out more.

The standard is 205 60 15 right?
So according to http://www.tyresave.co.uk/tyresize.html 215 65 15 will have a diameter which is 5.42% larger, or 34mm!
That will seriously throw out your speedo.
They recommend a size difference of no more than +/- 2.5%
215 60 15 is 1.91% larger
215 55 15 is 1.44% smaller
If you must go for wider tyres (assuming the alloys can take a tyre 10mm wider) then go for the size which will keep your speedo over reading, so you're travelling slower than it says.

Hi jgra1,
based on my own experience having on my Xantia Mk2 instead of 205/60-15 the size 195/65-15:
Facts: the height of the tyre changed from 205*60%= 123 mm to 195*65%=126.75mm. Those 126.75 mm was just the maximum tyre size that did not touch the filling pipe to the tank.
If you take 215/65-15, whose height is 215*65%=139.75 mm you get into a trouble with the filling pipe. It is 13 mm higher!

Personally I wouldn't go any bigger than 205/60/15 on the standard Exclusive (same as the VSX ?) Alloy rims.
I increased mine from 185/65/15 to 205/60/15 and while I've been pretty happy with them, I have to admit that on the VSX rims, which are only 5.5" wide (?? can someone confirm that?) the tyre tread is a lot wider than the rims, and wider still wouldn't be a good idea.
On the models that come with 205/60/15 standard (V6 and Activa) I think you'll find the rims are at least half an inch wider, maybe an inch. (Anyone got the figures ?)
I havn't had any problems with the tyres rubbing anywhere but I have to admit that the rear tyres are a snug fit when the suspension is right down, with only 10mm clearance from the guards...
Is there some reason you're not happy with 205 ? I find with 205's on mine it has TONS of grip and I'm actually thinking of going back the other way a bit to 195/65/15 to try and get a bit better ride as I don't think 205/60 rides quite as well as the originals...
Regards,
Simon

When i had my 97` VSX TD estate i upgraded from 185/65/15`s to 205/60/15`s on the standard VSX alloys. The tyres were a fair bit wider than the rims.Looked a lot better though & comfort & handling remained roughly the same.
No probs on my 406 though,as the alloys are 205/55/16`s so i wont be upgrading the tyres on that!

I quite agree Simon, both my Activa and 2.1TD have 205/60s on them (some 2.1TDs had Activa wheels fitted) and they do seem, compared to my 1.9TD that rides on 195s, not to be as comfy. Tons of grip as you say but ride does seem a little compromised and it seems to make the rear behave in a slightly more jittery fashion on bad surfaces.Mandrake wrote: I find with 205's on mine it has TONS of grip and I'm actually thinking of going back the other way a bit to 195/65/15 to try and get a bit better ride as I don't think 205/60 rides quite as well as the originals...

What you need to remember is that fitting non standard tyre or wheel sizes could invalidate your insurance unless you tell them, and if you do tell they might say either we'll no longer cover you or charge you some silly fee for changing the spec of your car.
