Broken xsara dip stick

Post by meeper »

Hi,

I've just had a panicked call from my sister: the end has snapped off of the dipstick, how risky is it to drive the car with this wandering around in the sump? She says that it is a plastic dipstick, broken just below the max oil level mark.

The car is a 2002 1.4 petrol xsara II (Injection TU3JP):

I guess the dip stick bit might come out with the next oil change if she's lucky? If not how hard is it to take the sump off, or should we not bother?

This site seems to suggest that she is safe:

She was persuaded to check the car over as her Fiat Marea suddenly lost its oil last week and is now scrap :0(

Thanks in advance for any help,

M.

I wouldn't think that it would do any harm, its to big to get sucked through the strainer and being plastic if it gets caught in anything I would think that it would just break up.
