My journey to work is about 6 miles through mainly stop-start traffic and my TD does roughly 38-39 MPG. It used to be slightly worse but improved a bit last year when I took the exhaust catalyst off.
Could be worse, my dad reckoned his 1.8i 16V did 25 MPG in these conditions !

The best MPG I've got from the Xantia was about 51 on a trip up the A19 from Hull to Newcastle & back, but that was taking it steady 60-65 in fifth for most of the way.

My dear daughter borrowed my Xantia TD 1995 and returned it without any fuel in and it took in 60 litres (£57) which returned 35 mpg over local running in 2 weeks.
Cheers!

You are all just trying to make me jealous.

I can get 30mpg out of the 807 but it takes a lot of effort and catching a couple of sets of lights can have a huge negative effect.

The wife struggles to get 25 out of it. :(

My TD M reg Xantia averages 39 mpg and is used to do 45 mile round trip along the motorway. I think 34 + around town sounds right.

You notice a massive difference if you drive at 70 for 300 miles (I got 600 miles out of a tank rather than my usual 450-500)
Had (Saxo VTR 1999 (T) LPG converted - do not ask!!!)
Had (Xantia LX TD 1995 (M) 144,000 miles)
Had (Xantia TD Estate (N) 147,000 miles !)
NOW GOT Picasso 2.0HDi (02) 96,000 miles

My 98 SX averages 42mpg on a 40 mile round trip to work, mostly on B roads, plus a bit of town driving. I let it go right down to the warning light plus a bit and generally get around 530 miles per tankfull.

The furthest on one tank is 636 miles (at 47.7mpg). The best mpg is 53.3 whilst tootling around Scotland on holiday a couple of years back :D

(All figures using the car's odometer, which is doubtless less than totally accurate :D - I know the speedo reads consistently 5mph fast above 45mph).
