Creaking ****** doors!
My X7 tourer's rear doors creak more than my knees do on a cold, damp day!
I've lubricated the hinges, many times, but to no avail - the noise is awful, and its LOUD!! Am I missing something, is there a hidden part that needs greasing??! Its driving me barmy!

Re: Creaking ****** doors!
Pete, I use silicone spray. Make sure you get a good dose of it where indicated - but importantly on the top cassette mechanism as shown. It's important to try and get some spray inside the cassette where the 2 halves join. I';m sure water gets in there and causes the creaking - so don't be tight with the spray in this part
Then 'work' the doors by gently opening and closing and repeating. The silicon spray works a treat - but I don't recommend WD40 in this case.

Hi Marc.
Thanks for that. Just been out to the garage to do it, and guess which one of my vast range of aerosol-remedies is empty.....
Till tomorrow then.....I'll report back!

Re: Creaking ****** doors!
I know what you mean - sod's law! I've been prepping some 6ft x 6ft fence panels today - the ones with the fancy woven latice at the top arches - and I thought I had 4 x 5 Lt tubs of Cuprinol - but it turns out I had 1/3 of a tub of sprayable, 1 tub of another brand of sprayable - but a slightly different colour, 1 tub of brushable Cuprinol (can't use it with the sprayer
) and finally 1 tub of mortar mix! Also thought I had a thousand cable ties, which I did - but only 3 of the huge ones I needed
What a PITA it is using a fence brush trying to 'get into the grooves' ( I feel a Madonna song coming on). Anyway, back is knackered and my joints have seized up so expect lots of typos in my posts tonight!
So off out tomorrow for supplies.

Re: Creaking ****** doors!
You lot HAVE heard of the psychic shed poltergeist, right? They live in sheds or garages (places where people store stuff that they occasionally use), and are quietly monitoring your thoughts. When they detect that you are heading to a shed (or garage) to get something IMPORTANT they either hide it under the largest pile, pour it down the nearest drain, or remove all of the solvent (so the rest of the contents INSTANTLY dry/set). Fortunately the little sods are VERY rare, but unfortunately when one moves in there is no known way to get rid of them.

I don't know about a shed poltergeist, but I've just found an orange slug the size of a squirrel in the bird seed bag - now ejected for the delights of the sparrow hawk, the kites or the flaming crows - I don't care who gets it.

Is this the sort of thing to help with the hinge noise Marc?
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/WD-40-Special ... CZNgvLD_KA great pics of where to spray it by the way, very handy
My driver door is clicking quite badly when I open it.... as well as the suspension but that's a different story

Re: Creaking ****** doors!
That's the stuff Elis - but not being a cheapskate or anything
- Halfrauds do a really good version and you get 400 ml for £3.99.
The WD branded Silicone is £4.99 for 250 ml or £8.50 for 400 ml
This is also the stuff I use to spray all the window channels with. A good dose with the window down, whilst operating the windows up and down a few times keeps the channels nice and smooth, coats the regulator wires, whilst reducing strain on the motors at the same time.

Re: Creaking ****** doors!
Cheers, I'll pick up a can at the weekend.
Do you mean spraying into the window 'hole' whilst its down then cleaning it off the glass later?

Re: Creaking ****** doors!
Yes, connect the straw and spray inside the left and right window channels along the whole vertical channel with the window down. Then wind the windows up and down a few times and repeat. It won't hurt the windows or the car paintwork and can be easily wiped off afterwards. A cheap trick to maintain the life of your leccy windows. I learned this too late after a £500 replacement window regulator and motor that decided to snap just at the NCP car park barrier! - No lie. Now I do this before winter and before summer on all the windows.

And squirting a little onto some kitchen roll and wiping it round your door seals in Autumn helps stop your doors freezing shut ....

Yes it's great for that too Richard, I forgot to add that to the list. It's very versatile that silicone spray!

400ml of Halford's finest purchased yesterday, and applied in copious amounts as per Marc's instructions. Silence is golden, as they say!
Many thanks!

That’s good news about the knees Pete, but what about the doors?
