407 RT3 No sound from CD

This is the RT3 unit and was made by Magneti Marelli
The RT3 was available in a few different hardware versions, the later ones supporting MP3 playback. These units had an optical connection to the Display Screen.

407 RT3 No sound from CD

Post by Yeasplease »

Hi,
I have here a Peugeot 407 with RT3 SatNav. The Radio is working, however the CD starts playing but no sound is coming from the speakers. I read in another thread that there are two amplifiers, would that also apply to the Peugeot 407 and if so, which one would be responsible for playing CDs?

The vehicle may of been supplied with a separate equaliser Amp as an optional extra, so you will have only the internal Amp of the RT3 as standard unless your vehicle is fitted with the Equaliser Amp. You cannot use both together as the vehicle has to be configured to use the separate amp. If you don't know what you have post your VIN up and I will confirm whether you have this or not.

I checked, the car doesn't have the JBL audio system (which does come with a separate amplifier). However it seems strange that all functions of the SatNav work properly, including sound from the radio and the phone, but the CD is just silent.

Something to consider is that the CD drive is a major component in its' own right, with a digital to analogue convertor (so takes the digital signal from the laser and converts it into the analogue signal the amplifying circuits can handle). If the D-A converter has failed the CD drive will still spin up the CD and read it; it just cannot convert it into something the amplifier can 'understand'.

It's also possible that the unit has failed - probably through age, or the lens is dirty so it can't read the CD. You might want to consider a CD lens cleaner to see if that makes any difference. As this part of the unit is exposed, dust, moisture and all the other contaminants from the passenger cabin (that you will find on the inside of the windscreen over time) can leave a film over the lens or elsewhere.
